It sucks to be atheist. Because you have to accept psychological discomfort.

I dont think there's a way out of it.

I do not see either as necessarily the case. One can be perfectly content as an atheist and theism is not necessarily incoherent though some forms seem to be.

@Neo-Scholastic

You're right, that it's possible for some atheists to not experience any psychological discomfort, or for some theists to not experience cognitive dissonance.

I was over generalising and being hyperbolic.

It just seems that the case for most.

Speaking for yourself, of course. I have never been religious. I didn't call myself an atheist because religion just wasn't important to me. Closest I got to religion was when a bible-thumping CPO traded me to another team because I refused to attend Sunday morning services. He got his whole team killed by praying instead of leading. I didn't thank God for that.

Why am I an atheist? I went to Catholic Schools for 12½ years and read the Bible. Enough said!

Religious belief in gods is caused by an insufficient understanding of human history and proper cause and effect relationships which in turn, causes the mind to continually collapse onto unanswered curiosity and forces it to create supernatural explanations that easily accounts for otherwise, complex scientific phenomena.

If you look at all of the reasons why people believe in gods, you will note that they are all arguments from ignorance:

If god doesn't exist, then why does ....
If god doesn't exist, then how come .....
If god doesn't exist, then where did we.....
If god doesn't exist, then who created....
If god doesn't exist, then what makes...

I truly believe that the universe and life came around from spontaneity of aspects we try to explain in science, if it was made by god then things like death disease and war all fall to him as responsible therefore he cannot be real. Christianity is a massive mind warp.

I put in 9 years before I finished high school in public school. All 3 of my sisters went the full 12 years.

god is purely make believe.
Hoomans are, fearful, ignorant, and most of all, arrogant creatures.

There must be something that loves them, and protect them from the big bad scaries.

If, and that's a big if, there is anything beyond this realm of existence, it is far, far superior to the tiny, insignificant, hooman brain.
