Why are you (still) a Christian?
RE: Why are you (still) a Christian?

Of course I would. Why wouldn't I? I know unbelievers don't like definitions but for the sake of argument let's have some.

Evidence: the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.

Truth: the quality or state of being true; that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality; a fact or belief that is accepted as true.

So, what's the evidence on Potter? He's a fictional character. It's like Santa Claus. You can't deny the existence of Santa Claus and be surrounded by him. Especially during that warm and fuzzy corporate time of year. It isn't so much a question of literal existence, it's a question of definition. The evidence of God's literal existence is abundant, but that don't mean much.

Evidence and truth are a crutch for people with a pathological narrow mindedness.

Excellent, Bucky. Not only that but God doesn't see into the future like a fortune teller because the future doesn't exist.

So then Data, now you're agreeing it's NOT a prophesy about Jesus.
You flip-flop so much it's hard to keep track.
As with the discussion about Saul and the Witch, now your taking to OPPOSITE position you did, initially.
Still waiting to hear whom you studied under, and where you got your advanced degree.
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell  Popcorn

Are you going to answer the question?

Sure. Uh . . . I, as Kratos, have personally ripped the head off Medusa many, many times. On the other hand Jacob beat an angel in a wrestling match, so I think it would be a close call. Except for the fact that Medusa and Kratos are the stuff of myth and video games while angels . . . but angels? Well, now angels are real!

Sure they are...

Sorry (not sorry), but this is what you sound like...

Until you can provide some actual, testable, verifiable evidence for the existence of angels, I'm going to go on the premise that they're as real as Superman. Big Grin

The truly narrow minded are those who insist they have a truth, regardless of the evidence. They will not look beyond their narrow views, because they believe they have no reason to.

I don't really buy that. It's a sociopolitical struggle. A class struggle of sorts.

What would be the motivation for that? Who cares what another believes. I'm not anti-atheism or anti-atheist.

(September 15, 2023 at 12:10 pm)Mister Agenda Wrote: Even more technically (and definitely more pedantically), you wouldn't actually have to be an atheist to be an anti-theist; you could believe a god or God exists and also think no one should believe it. I'm not sure there actually is such a person in real life, though.

Or you could be a theist who thinks all other theists are idiots and wrong more often than not. And hypocritical, judgmental, fake, war mongering, politically motivated, narrow minded unqualified self appointed moral police of the planet.

I'm just saying. I'm sure there's someone out there that thinks that way . . . .

All theists are anti-theists.

If you had it you would have yourself committed or heavily medicated or at least deny it, trying, with all your might, to find some reason it wasn't true.

No, more to your attitude toward evidence and it's support of reality.

And what evidence is that? Perhaps you mean more to the fact that I don't agree with you.
