Christian Radio Yelling At Me

There's a spot on my commute where my local jazz station gets overpowered by an evangelical christian low power FM radio station. I notice it's always shouting men with southern USA accents blathering on about vengeance and wrath. Never hear a female or non-white sounding voice, and it's always yelling at me. 

I find it so off-putting. Does this shouting tactic work with believers? Do people like to feel awful? How does this stuff work?

When my son was around ten years old he accepted an invitation to a tent revival.  That was it for him...the yelling, the hellfire and brimstone stuff.  And yeah, it was in the south.  He was disgusted.

On the other hand, some people eat that stuff up like it's the best thing ever.  I don't get it.  I grew up a Catholic.  Masses got their wildest when they started having folk masses.  We were never yelled at just preached to in a sing-songy manner.

Yelling at me has never really been an effective motivator.

I'm in Massachusetts, where religion tends to be reserved and more private than it is in other parts of the country. So strange to hear these angry men shouting.

I’ve got first cousins in Massachusetts. I visited several years ago - very picturesque little town.

I commuted to work for 27 years. I got an iPod. Since I bought the music, I only heard what I liked. Not sure that my fellow carpool people cared for Black Sabbath, but at least there were no commercials.
