Good question.  Ma'am and sir are so ingrained in the way I speak that I wouldn't know where to go with that.  Hopefully people who are offended will just say to themselves - Okay Boomer.

Family lore said that granddaddy couldn't wear a watch.  Though family members bought him watch after watch after watch, when he put them on...they stopped working.  Wonder if this had anything to do with it.  (1949)
