Stupid things religious people say
RE: Stupid things religious people say
It appears that the Pope had a good night and is now in a medical crisis again. I await Trump's announcement that he will be the next Pope.

Really? Are you going to miss this one? As an ex-catholic, who was your favorite Pope? Was it Pope Farthead the 7th?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Considering that he’s in a job that requires him to say silly things and support unpalatable positions, Francis has been a better than average Pope (and yes, I realize that’s a low bar).

To me it seems they are also using the pope to play the game of having their cake and eating it too. For example, the Vatican's stance on evolution is that they don't acknowledge it, while the Pope is "Ah, you know, whatever, maybe it's real"; or the gay people where Vatican is against them while many people are under the impression that the pope is even in favor of gay marriage; or Vatican is pro enriching itself, while many people were under the impression that the pope was secretly sneaking out of the Vatican at night and feeding the poor people.

Anyway, it seems that the papacy today is completely useless in the best case, and contra productive at it's worst (like when Ratzinger was telling people not to use condoms while AIDS was raging around them).

What are you babbling about?  I stated what has been on the news.  That the Pope had a good night and then turn a turn for the worse.  I was being a smartass by suggesting Trump would name himself as the next pope.

Get over yourself.  I was raised Catholic...raised Catholic.  I didn't ever believe the shit.  I was forced into a certain level of compliance.

Why is he in hospital, does he not think prayer will work?
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

There’s an old saying among Irish fishermen: ‘Pray to God, but row away from the rocks.’

What do you know, Christians can't differentiate between fiction and reality. Maybe it has to do with them being brainwashed into believing that fictional places like Pearly Gates are real, as well as fictional creatures like angels, talking animals and gods.

Quote:“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson is a devout Christian, but apparently he’s rubbed people of the same faith the wrong way with his acting. Speaking to GQ magazine, the action star said that some Christians have a hard time separating him from his characters and their actions on screen.

“People have this weird relationship with fictional characters, and sort of equate that to the real human being,” Ritchson said. “I don’t have that problem, making that distinction. I get criticized a lot by Christians who are like, ‘How dare you have an unmarried sex scene on TV and then talk about Jesus?’ I’m sorry—I doubt that’s going to be part of the conversation when I’m standing at the pearly gates!”

Ritchson also noted at the time that his religion had become “the most vitriolic tribe.”

“Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it,” the actor said as an example.

Ritchson also called out the “atrocities that are happening in the church that are being actively covered up, even to this day with people not being held accountable,” calling such actions “repulsive.”

“I can’t for one second support the Catholic Church while there are still cardinals, bishops and priests being passed around with known pedophilic tendencies,” he added.

What are Christians going to do if not rage against gays?

This time it's all about how gays are not allowed to even think about sex.

Quote:Christians should reject 'gay identity' in its entirety

There is a sinister movement that has crept into the Church. It goes by a few names, some of which include “Gay Celibate Theology” or “Side B Christianity.” I like to call it demonic.

Those who identify as Gay Celibate Christians will mostly affirm that God created two genders, male and female (Gen. 1:27), and that sex is reserved for marriage (Gen. 2:24). So far so good, right? Wrong. The movement teaches that men can live God-honoring lives as self-identified homosexuals with unrepentant homosexual desires so long as they refrain from homosexual sex acts. These insidious ideologies are so wrong on so many fronts that my brain can’t even comprehend them as I write this article.

As Christians, we pray for God to change our hearts, not our chromosomes.

The belief that sinful desires don’t have to be crucified and that homosexual desires are nothing more than an immutable orientation is just a prideful excuse to relentlessly live in sin.

Can you imagine if a married man said to his buddy, “I know I’m married and I would never cheat on my wife, but all day I dream of having an affair. I’m not in sin, so long as I don’t engage in the physical behavior.” This man is clearly in sin and doesn’t understand that God longs to change his heart (Ez. 36:26), not just keep him from sinful behavior.

GCT adherents believe they are imprisoned to live in supposed “celibacy” as victims unable to be sanctified to become healthy men who enjoy marriage and fatherhood. I think instead of calling it “Side B Christianity” they should call it “Plan B Christianity.” Even still, it wouldn’t be Christian.

Nowhere in Scripture are we taught that God gives the gift of celibacy to an individual because of sexual immorality in their heart. This is a victim mentality and quite frankly toxic.

I’ve personally been delivered from homosexual desires as I have walked with the Lord as my Counselor. In my healing journey, the Lord has helped me process my childhood so that I could understand why I developed homosexual desires in the first place. At the core of my struggle was a masculinity crisis that propelled me to sexualize other men. Healing came in part from God restoring my broken masculine identity.
