There's an interesting wrinkle in the Comey case being that the lie he ostensibly told Congress was his affirmation of prior testimony he made in 2017. There's an argument to be made that his affirming his prior testimony by saying he stood by it was not in itself a lie, even if that 2017 testimony was untruthful. It's not clear that saying he stood by his former testimony is itself a false statement, and the statute of limitation for the prior 2017 statement had already expired.

In other news, a Texas board governing GOP affairs will be meeting to test a new rule that they passed in 2024. The new rule renders anyone censured by the board from participating in the party's primaries for two years. So the board is planning a full-day meeting to look at censuring ten Republicans for being insufficiently conservative in their legislative activities in the prior session, thus rendering them ineligible for the next primary. Republicans are endlessly inventive of finding newer and better ways to warp the process and render absurd and unjust results.

Mike Johnson just called every American who plans to attend a No Kings event on October 18 a hater of the United States.
"This hate America rally that they have coming up for October 18? The antifa crowd, the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists, they're all gonna gather on the Mall. It is an outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes ... all this has gotta come to an end."
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Said out loud during a Cabinet meeting: Quote:“This morning before I came in here, somebody showed me a TikTok video of a pregnant woman, eight months pregnant. She is an associate professor at Columbia Medical School, and she is saying ‘F Trump’ and gobbling Tylenol with her baby in her placenta,” he said, seemingly confusing the temporary organ with the uterus. “The level of ‘Trump derangement syndrome’ has now left political landscapes and it is now in the realm of pathology." I'm not a physician, an anatomist, a pregnant woman, or (and this is important) the US Secretary of Health and Human Services, but I flatter myself that I know the difference between a placenta and a uterus. Quote:Thiel’s talks, which began on 15 September and ended on Monday, were long and sweeping, mingling biblical passages, recent history and philosophy and sometimes deviating into conspiracy theories. He peppered them with references to video games and TV shows along with musings on JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. He likewise recalled conversations with Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu and spoke at length about how he thinks Bill Gates is “a very, very awful person”.
