Finally, an answer to the important conundrum that has been tormenting me.
Quote:Is it sinful for Christians to watch horror movies?
From the Church's point of view, there is no official prohibition of the horror genre. This means that watching a horror movie largely rests on a person's personal discernment.
Steven D. Greydanus explains that, "[t]he grotesque, the macabre, and the frightful have an abiding place in human imagination and culture — a place that Christian sensibility has historically not seen fit to reject or condemn, at least entirely."
At the same time, this does not mean that all horror is good for a Christian soul to consume. Many films will display scenes of excessive violence, ones that are can make some people throw-up.
Additionally, some horror films praise the occult and satanic, holding them up as valid paths for anyone to follow.
We can't deny the fact that "we are what we eat," and that if we are obsessed with horror and fill our lives with it, our souls will inevitably be changed by it.
A little bit of horror can be fine, but if it starts to change who you are and if you begin to really fear Satan, thinking that he is more powerful than God, then it may be good to stop watching.
As with all things, prayer and discernment is important, as well as advice from a trusted spiritual advisor.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It's cow shit time!
It's that time of the year when atheists regret not believing in god the most because theists roll over in cow shit to mark the end of Diwali, India's most holy Hindu festival. And since it's holy shit, it heals the faithful from ailments.

A new message from God has just arrived to Russians through Orthodox Archpriest Andrei Lemeshonok:
“Are you complaining about the absence of hot water and indoor plumbing? Crucify yourself!
You should die instead of desiring material possessions! The end!”
A guy covered and surrounded by gold is telling people not to desire materialistic possessions is Christianity in a nutshell.

Did you know that you were a Christian every time you watched a horror movie?
Quote:Black Phone 2 writer: Everyone 'is a Christian' when they watch horror movies
Director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill (partners on both Black Phone movies, Sinister, and Sinister 2), who both identify as Christians, say that horror movies automatically turn viewers into Christians, at least for the film's run time.
"The minute an audience sits down for a horror movie, everyone in that audience is a Christian," Cargill says. "If there's a demon in the movie, everyone's immediately like, Yes, reading from the Bible can chase it away. Yes, Hell is a real place. Yes, of course, the devil can impregnate a woman, you can have a child of the devil. That makes total sense. And then they get up and leave it all there in the movie theater."
With that in mind, he and Derrickson felt they could address Christianity in the Black Phone sequel more directly than they did in the first movie. "It doesn't matter what religion you are when you sit down for horror," he says. "Christianity is baked into our horror to the point where people understand and acknowledge the rules, so we knew we could just say it out loud."

And there are Japanese movies where a Shinto priest is called on to banish the evil yokai. I'm sure that's very significant.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

He's sort of right. It's called suspension of disbelief. It works for any piece of fiction. If you sit through the Lord of the Rings movies, you accept that it takes place in a universe where magic is real. You watch Raiders of the Lost Ark and you pretend it is real. It's necessary to enjoy the movie.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

And if you watch the Rocky franchise, you accept that Sylvester Stallone knows what boxing is like.

Yesterday I saw a (Catholic) nun walking by the Orthodox church. She kept looking at the church for a relatively long time and just passed by. In other words, she didn't cross herself. And if you know pious people, you know they always cross themselves when they walk by a church or even a crucifix, but to her this church was nothing. Not her brand of Jesus. I guess it was a success she didn't spit on the sidewalk for walking near such blasphemy.
These people are truly ridiculous.
