"Stanley wants to shoot the sex scene in one shot, and the camera would reveal that I have underwear on. I agree to do it naked. I'm scared. There's a disease going around the world right now. There is a lot of paranoia and hysteria about all the different ways you cam catch it. Some people think it can be spread by mosquitoes. That you can get it off door handles. Nobody knows for sure. And since I don't either, I start obsessing about the fact that this lady is going to have her vagina wide open while she sits on my back. She'll be straddling me like a person on top of a pony. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say. I figure Stanley will be sympathetic; after all, look at all the rumors about him and his phobias.
Stanley thinks I'm insane."
- Matthew Modine on making the movie "Full Metal Jacket"
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Ben Shapiro: "No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old. Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem."
Wow, this Ben Shapiro is such a smart guy. How could he alone come up with a solution to this centuries-old problem? For decades people have been retiring for obviously no reason at all. If only someone had come up with this earlier.

'First of all, those are absolutely total lies. Those are the words of dictators and people who want to stay in power, and to suppress the First Amendment rights that we all should enjoy as Americans.
And not only is it absolutely offending — offended to — offending to every single American. It’s personally offending to me and to my family, and my father, and my son, all of us, and my grandfather, who fought in World War II, all of us in the military, who have stood up and been in combat. All of us. To be able to say, You have the right to speak up as an American in a peaceful manner, to exercise, again, the First Amendment right.' - Major General Randy Manner (ret), commenting on the raft of Republicans referring to the No Kings rallies as 'Hate America' rallies

‘There’s a dark side to each and every human soul. We wish we were Obi-Wan Kenobi, and for the most part we are, but there’s a little Darth Vader in all of us. Thing is, this ain’t no either-or proposition. We’re talking about dialectics, the good and the bad merging into us. You can run but you can’t hide. My experience? Face the darkness. Stare it down. Own it. As brother Nietzsche said, being human is a complicated gig. So give that ol’ dark night of the soul a hug. Howl the eternal yes!‘ - Chris Stevens, Northern Exposure

"I had to take his hand and hold it as weakly and as briefly as possible—but I did shake hands [with Wernher von Braun]. Ever since then, I have had the queasy feeling that I have shaken a hand that shook the hand of Adolf Hitler."
