All this footage of the US committing crimes in international waters reminds me of the kids who go on crime sprees and take video, which ends up as evidence in court. The only difference is the atrociously higher level of crime by the US. For shame.

... and let's not forget this"
Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon’s watchdog found that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth put U.S. personnel and their mission at risk when he used the Signal messaging app to convey sensitive information about a military strike against Houthi militants in Yemen, two people familiar with the findings said Wednesday.
Hegseth, however, has the ability to declassify material and the report did not find he did so improperly, according to one of the people familiar with the report’s findings who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the information. CNN first reported the initial findings.
The review by the Pentagon inspector general’s office was delivered to lawmakers, who were able to review the report in a classified facility at the Capitol. A partially redacted version of the report was expected to be released publicly later this week.
The findings ramp up the pressure on the former Fox News Channel host after lawmakers had called for the independent inquiry into his use of the commercially available app. Lawmakers also just opened investigations into a news report that a follow-up strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean Ocean in September killed survivors after Hegseth issued a verbal order to “kill everybody.”
[...]
Hegseth’s use of the app came to light when a journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, was inadvertently added to a Signal text chain by then-national security adviser Mike Waltz. It included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and others, brought together to discuss March 15 military operations against the Iran-backed Houthis.

Although Mangione signaled he wasn't interested in speaking, police continued asking questions, and he continued answering, video showed. Nearly 20 minutes passed before police informed him of his right to remain silent.
The exchanges have been scrutinized this week at a lengthy New York court hearing as Mangione's lawyers try to keep some key evidence from being presented at his murder trial, including his statements to police and a gun and diary officers say they found in his backpack when he was arrested Dec. 9, 2024, in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Mangione's lawyers argue that his statements aren't fair game for trial because officers asked questions before reading his rights. The defense says the contents of his backpack should be excluded because police didn't get a warrant before searching it.

I think the evidence will stand. He was identified and reported as having resembled the wanted poster, but the police had to identify him directly. The delaying tactic of asking questions not related to the crime ("How's your steak sandwich?") doesn't fall under Miranda, I think, because it isn't asking directly about the crime.
Searching his backpack once they determined his ID was fake is legal because in any arrest, a search is legitimate.

The actual event was called Episode 37, which was a pretty cool lava fountain that I watched a couple of days ago on Youtube. Kilauea has been erupting episodically every few weeks in this fashion for a few years now. It slowly inflates, and then eventually erupts, and deflates again. It's spectacular to watch, but rarely has much effect outside the crater other than vog and a little ash. Right now, Kilauea has gone quiet for the next few days because the pressure was released during the lava fountaining. It's slowly inflating toward the eagerly awaited Episode 38, which will probably occur sometime before Christmas.
There is no indication that Kilauea is becoming more active and there are no heightened evacuation alerts. It's literal fake news and the person who wrote it should be ashamed.
And yes, it's very cool to see. I'd love to be able to see it in person, but until then, enjoy the USGS webcams.
I happily bow to your superior geocological knowledge!

If you're interested, Episode 38 is currently ramping up to max. There will likely be fire fountains at Kilauea this weekend or early next week.

During her podcast Katie Miller (wife of Stephen Miller, aka 'Discount Voldemort) asked Pete Hegseth, 'Who would you trust to babysit your kids? This can only be another cabinet member.' Hegseth replied, 'Not your husband.'
Scorch.
