I don't understand tides, therefore God must exist.

F***ing gravity, how does it work?

Where did he get his '80% of Americans are Christian'?

The last survey I saw said that 60% of Americans claimed to be Christian, 40% claimed to go to church but only 20% actually do go to church (measured by church door survey). IF some of those 20% are not really Christians, as claimed in this video, how many Christians are there really in America? 10%? That would tie in fairly well with the normal spread of IQ in a population.

This is the Statler-Waldorf school of religious thought.

"You can't account for X. I can. God(Verb)It. I win. Don't try to explain with all that sciency stuff. I'm not listening. Lalalalalalalalala"
Atheist Forums Hall of Shame:
"The trinity can be equated to having your cake and eating it too."

"(Yahweh's) actions are good because (Yahweh) is the ultimate standard of goodness. That’s not begging the question"

Bill probably thought he won that argument too, he never admits defeat.

Does that guy know anything? No one can explain how the tides come in and out huh? I can, it's called....the fucking moon! The moons gravitational pull on the earth pulls the oceans. The sun also plays a role.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I find that idiots like O'Reilly who cling to faith and argue from ignorance more often than not only dismiss science because they know nothing about it.

It's infuriating.

His response, (paraphrase) "Um, yeah, I knew that! But how did the moon get there, smart guy? Huh, huh?"

To the best of my knowledge, no one has told him that the moon "got there" when a large asteroid collided with the then molten earth, creating first a ring and then this ring coalesced into what is now the moon. This was an important development for life on earth for a number reasons, not just for the tidal movements. The collision brought some of the iron to the surface, allowing for the manufacture of tools. It's relationship stabilized the earth's rotation, preventing the earth from wildly shifting on it's axis.

Presumably O'Riley would have countered, "Yeah, I knew that. But how did the asteroid collide with the earth?"

Is this continued regression ad infinitum a logical fallacy of some kind?

Some people shouldn't be allowed to read. That man's life would have been much simpler if his range of knowledge was kept to hygienic items, food stuffs, clothing and utensils. Boom. Yes, Mr. Reilly, god made clothes, food, hygiene and utensils. Now, go back to bed before you hurt yourself.
