Thoughts on Buddhism
RE: Thoughts on Buddhism
Unless, Epi, those hateful thoughts are exactly what you are "meditating" upon. I'm going to go meditate really hard on getting back at the guy who cut me off on the way to the cornerstore this morning and see if I can give him a flat with my mind or some such bullshit.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Love can be unearned, unrequited and unreciprocated, but it doesn't have to be. The idea of loving the person you marry is a newer, western ideal. In previous cultures, marriage often satisfied other ends, but it was expected that you would grow to like/love your spouse, ceteris paribus.

And following the teachings of a long dead philosopher, sans any direct evidence of the truth of their teachings on the nature of ultimate reality, is the epitome of dogmatism. But hey, 2600 years of repeating the same mistake, religiously, nothing wrong with that, is there?

And yes, both the traditions I follow have large, dogmatic components to them. Following a dogmatic form of belief is one thing, claiming one's beliefs aren't dogmatic when they in fact are is another.

Actually my love for human beings should be more like my love for my cat if it's truly love. I should love them all without expecting anything in return.

Actually I think I do.

I don't even hate criminals and highly violent people. On the contrary, I think of them as being mentally ill or dysfunctional. It's an illness. Why should I hate someone for being ill?

If my cat came down with rabies or distemper, I'd have it put to sleep, not because I stopped loving it, but simply because it's the most humane thing to do. Put the cat out of it's misery and simultaneously protect innocent people from being harmed by the cat.

Personally that's how I would view extremely criminal humans as well.

So my love for humans should be more like my love for my cat actually. And in truth I think it is. Although I do enjoy petting my cat on occasion. I don't necessarily have a desire to pet all humans. Maybe some of the finer females. But that's a whole different topic there.
Christian - A moron who believes that an all-benevolent God can simultaneously be a hateful jealous male-chauvinistic pig.
Wiccan - The epitome of cerebral evolution having mastered the magical powers of the universe and is in eternal harmony with the mind of God.
Atheist - An ill-defined term that means something different to everyone who uses it.

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
Clearly Jesus (a fictitious character or otherwise) will forgive people if they merely know not what they do
For the Bible Tells us so!

Ahhh, but the remake-that had Nastassja Kinski, and she had a kitty I very much wouldn't have minded petting.

And as far as Dogma goes, dogma schmogma! I'm more a dog guy. I don't even know what the hell I'm talking about half the time. I just like to be wrong about theories and look like a jack handle.

Hey, I still think 911 was an inside job. Why not? Who's stoppin' the filthy warhawks and Jewish elite anyway?

I have seen so many things that confirm my Jedihood in buddha politics.

The difference between someone like you and me is that I have personality, I have a sense of humor, I have a creative imagination, and I'm not a stick in the mud. You strike me as someone drab and dull because you are so utterly predictable and trite. You have no original ideas of your own, only vast criticisms and conceit. You never add any wisdom to anything, you only subtract, like a leech.

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
