Quote:lets say that you were left with $100,000,000

At that point it would pay to become a republicunt.

Make sure you stop by, Summer.

RE: Piles of Money
I'd buy an awesome apartment in a large city with miserable weather. This means I would probably do some traveling first to decide exactly where I want to go.

I would start up an affordable, secular home-schooling program. There are really none, you know.

I would continue to smoke cheap, generic cigarettes and shop for clothes at thrift stores.

I'd open up a no-kill animal shelter.

I would adopt some children.

I would tell my kids we were broke for as long as they'd believe me.

I would buy my grandparents a home on the beach in Florida.

I could go on, but I want there to be a lot left over for my children when I'm gone.

I remember them Big Grin I'll be returning to Adelaide next year for my sister's wedding.

As for the money - I would live the same as I do now. I'm already in a situation where I have enough money to not need to work for another year and a bit and I'm still trying to get rid of possessions that I don't need. I haven't bought any new clothes for about 3-4 years, I eat the cheapest food I can buy and the city centre is only about a 40 min walk so I don't have a car either.

So:
  1. Give 85% of it to charity
  2. Travel
  3. Keep some for emergency funds
  4. Not tell anyone I'm loaded

I am the rain on this little dream parade! I've read up a bit on the reality of winning the lottery and most people who win end up in dire straights wishing they had never encountered such quick won wealth. This is why I never play the lottery or give generously to "The Stupidity Tax" as my uncle used to call it:

Quote:A survey by “Associated Content” indicates that 90% of lottery winners become bankrupt after 10 years. Why? Because if they had trouble managing their previous incomes, they were totally out of their elements trying to manage a lot of money.
That makes perfect sense. If you can't handle $1500 a month, you aren't going to be able to handle $50,000 a month. I think the key would be to have a good financial adviser/planner - and not to let everyone know you're now loaded.

I know the odds of winning are virtually nil, but it is fun to dream.

Trying to go in order as best as I can:

Buy expensive groceries
Pay for my education
Get my own place
Get my mother her own place
Get my brother his own restaurant
Travel (that seems to be quite the theme here Tongue)
Get this guitar!

That's all I can think of at the moment. Truth be told, I'd probably go insane. Dunno
Don’t ask.

I find that this simply shows that the majority of people who win the lottery are retards or naive.

The reality of winning the lottery is you get a shit load of money. Evidently a lot of people can't handle that. Their problem if they are fucking stupid with it, not the lottery itself.

Ahh, and you think you have the maturity to handle a situation that you've never faced before? Interesting. I've found that I need practice to handle new situations. Like it has been said before, most people have trouble handling what little they have so having a whole lot will bring more problems than can be expected.

1. I think I would just pay off my debt, including my mortgage
2. I would stay working so I had an income I understood
3. I would make sure to max out my IRA contributions spread between standard small cap. mutual funds and a physical gold account
4. I would invest anything left that was in the category of winnings into a small cap. mutual fund and use any profit to have fun with.
5. Hookers and blow come in there somewhere.
