God's Most Appalling Act

I asked you a question without getting angry, but you didn't respond. I wil calmly ask again.

Asking what our purpose is assumes that there is a purpose in the first place, so what makes you assume that we have a purpose?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

You get what you give, Sarah. Generally, if you can read plain text and interpret it as angry and rude, it's probably more down to you projecting your own expectations into the words than anything else. Apart from the obvious exceptions in which a person is being deliberately angry and rude, of course.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Whats really disturbing is that the sheep actually celebrate this event. As if it's something to be proud of. (This picture is actually linked from a religious site)

"Hallelujah, our all-knowing god tested Abraham in the most sadistic way possible, and knowing full well what the outcome would be ... did it anyway." Nevermind the mental and emotional damage inflicted on a child or the pain it would have caused a father that truly loved his little boy. Nope god don't give a shit. He's so self absorbed, that he's willing to pick people out and amuse himself with their suffering.

So .. do you have a picture of what you think god's most appalling act is???

Christianity is evil and it should be pointed out as such. Can we find a picture of bears mauling children with the words God's Perfect Justice on it??

There's lots of atrocities to choose out of that evil book they call the Bible.

We note it's only true when there are "atrocities" to report. The good stuff never happened.

That said, I myself have trouble reconciling some parts of the OT with the new and what Jesus himself said.

No.

I have seen devils in my (former) Church; pretending to be "believers" but ready to strike you on the back if the opportunity presents itself. Atheists on this forum are far better than them. Atleast, Atheists openly state their belief and take a stand; not like some of my former congregation members who are two faced. Looks like we will get to see a lot more Atheists in Heaven.

I think that's what's known as a back-handed compliment... Smile

No Stimbo,

No sarcasm intended.

No, a back-handed compliment is nothing to do with sarcasm. Irony, perhaps, due to the reference to atheists going to heaven. Regardless, I was making a funny.

Are you saying that you think I believe this story is true? ... and not only that but claiming the I think the "good stuff" is false??

Allow me to help the sheep understand better ...
First of all, I do not for a moment believe that your god even exists, let alone sent an angel down to stop Abraham from killing the son that he originally asked him to kill. I do however believe the part about an imbecile believing that god told him to sacrifice murder his son. Why, because we still see that shit today. It's VERY believable. Religious people can be gullible fucktards capable of doing the most heinous of things. As to your claim that we ignore the "good stuff," there's very little of it in there and we don't ignore it - we mock it openly. Lazarus, healing the various sick, water into wine, feeding of the five thousand ... all that "good stuff" we mock regularly - cause we don't believe that EITHER. The only parts of the Bible that has any real chance of being true are the twisted fucks that carry out your god's filthy sickening will. So you can stow that smug remark.

You have trouble? Really?! You have trouble?!

... yeah yeah, I have trouble with murdering homosexuals for being gay. I have trouble murdering children for mocking a man for being bald. I have trouble with stoning your children. I have trouble owning and beating slaves. I have trouble with killing women and children of neighboring countries and keeping the young women as sex slaves. I have trouble with endless atrocities endorsed and commanded by god.

Yeah ... good thing a little trouble is easily overcome with contradictions, nonsense, and arguments of context. [Image: sad-emoticon-msn.gif]
