Your holier-than-thou attitude doesn't fly here. If you cared to look in this thread and others you would see how wrong you are. Since page one people have been telling him to seek professional help, the 'debate' you say we are having its not a debate, its people trying to make him seek help and not focus in blaming beliefs for his life's problems.

But you aren't interested in saying the truth, you just want to sell the same old snake-oil about atheists that all you religionists try to sell.

Go live you puny brainwashed life in ignorance and self righteousness and huddle with that in darkness. Let reality be dealt with by those that are interested in it.

Great thing about other people. If I had a nickle for every time my significant other said how fucked up the world is; I would out do Donald Trump $$$ wise.

The perceptions of what I can choose to see as not fucked up but just is what it is. Went to the store yesterday, shopping consists of buying a lot of fruit, turns out the store is remodeling and there was no fruit not even frozen. So I bought other things I like and will go back another day.

There is no god to have fucked things up. Human beings fucked stuff up.

Brainwashed part you've gotten right on the nose. This the sort of having another human state other people are evil. The beginning of teaching prejudiced 'flock'.

That says you are a theist attempting to transfer into agnostic.

i feel like i am the only person in the whole world who sees how fucked up this world is
No one is alone in their opinion.

Just to let you know I find humour in that last line.

Plus, getting help wouldn't hurt, would more likely help.

"If one wishes to form a true estimate of the full grandeur of religion, one must keep in mind what it undertakes to do for men. It gives them information about the source and origin of the universe, it assures them of protection and final happiness amid the changing vicissitudes of life, and it guides their thoughts and motions by means of precepts which are backed by the whole force of its authority."

Note that she was careful to say "most". So if anyone tries to point out that they have indeed shown they care and would offer any help they can, she can play her trump card and claim she wasn't including them in her sweeping dismissal. Subtle.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I call them 'weasel conditionals'. Like weasel words in that you can never pin them down on it because 'most' is such a general statement.

Really? I think its very fair to say that on the first page at least (I could not bear to read further) there was only a single mention of getting "help", and even that was after a long post telling him to "GET A GRIP" among other things. Sad

There is a time and a place for internet slapfights and I don't think this is it. Perhaps pages 2+3 are filled with genuine helpfulness, love and support, and not even a hint of anything else. I have not read them, but I will give them all the benefit of the doubt and I immediately apologize after rushing to judge after a heatbreaking first page. But in any case, he would get even more care with a genuine professional. I think this is fair.

If zentor wants to give his general area we can all help research into low-cost or free mental health services in the area. It cannot possibly hurt.
Mary Immaculate, star of the morning
Chosen before the creation began
Chosen to bring for your bridal adorning
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.

Sinners, we honor your sinless perfection;
Fallen and weak, for your pity we plead;
Grand us the shield of your sovereign protection,
Measure your aid by the depth of our need.

Bend from your throne at the voice of our crying,
Bend to this earth which your footsteps have trod;
Stretch out your arms to us, living and dying,
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.

My first response was an attempt to set his mind at rest by reassuring him not to take his pastor's words too seriously.

My second followed the agreement of my point in his reply and reiterated the sympathetic tone of the first, coupled with a nugget of advice regarding how to handle what people with an agenda might want him to think.

I could have advised him to see a doctor but I decided to try a different angle of approach since such advice had already been offered - particularly since I felt that it was the kind of advice he has presumably come to expect to hear, as pertinent and appropriate as it is.

I fully concur with not using this as a platform for anything other than that for which it was intended.

Are you aware of the activity in other threads that occurred prior to this one, over the last couple of days (and earlier)?

If you care to look at his other threads, you'll see that we've been encouraging him (without success) to do exactly that.

You need to wake the fuck up to reality. Telling someone who clearly needs to get a grip, to get a grip, is in my opinion very helpful. Sometimes people need to be told the cold truth. If I was in his situation I'd rather people were honest. Why the fuck come on an internet forum telling everyone how suicidal you are if you don't want them to be at the very least honest?

What should we do instead? Pat this guy on the back and tell him to pray to a god that doesn't answer? Indeed. What a constructive idea.

On top of that in my original response (on the first page you refer to) I did in fact tell this person to seek professional help on multiple occasions.

So no. It's not 'fair to say' what you say. Stop being a disingenuous pompous prick.

I wrote what I wrote before I read any of the other thread. I knew he was most likely bipolar from his posts on this thread.

Before you can even begin to help someone with bipolar disorder, they must be stabilized with medication. It's an unfortunate reality.

It's not that the folks here don't want to help him, it's just that we're unable to do so. He's gotta do something to help himself.
