True, but what makes us Americans is we take most misconceptions to the extreme.

Well the USA is supposed to be the world's wealthiest nation, so it has little excuse to ensure that 1.5 million children aren't homeless, that everyday people aren't sleeping in drains or that millions of people often go hungry every day.
The republicanazis call them "socialists."

I think it's our capitalist society that instills that kind of thinking. In monetary issues, it's usually only the strong/smart/ruthless that survive. I think because of that, people see the poor as lazy and not willing to work, rather than thinking that the system is broken and these people truly need help. Additionally, people feel less empathy towards the poor for some reason or another. They have it in their heads that the poor don't deserve help.
Obviously, this is a personal view that I haven't indepth looked in to.

Or maybe a capitalist society would view the poor as the losers in a competition (in which there is always a loser) and leave it at that? If the system is a game then the presence of losers does not indicate that the system is broken, but that it is working as intended.

If only it were that simple. The cunts of the upper 1% are out there deliberately outsourcing jobs and trying to drive more people into poverty where they can be kept in line by Draconian laws enforced by thug cops who are hired to protect the propertied classes.

I have to chime in with Min here, I don't think what we have is actually a capitalist society... I think it would be more accurate to say that we have a narrative about our society that is capitalist but that our society itself contains elements of quite a bit more. I also think that the whole capitalist bit is something of a ploy to keep us imagining that we might one day be the winners...lol.

This reminds me of a quote from Romney that he said when standing at the house of the CEO of Dominos which sits right on a golf course. This is a paraphrase but I believe to be a fairly accurate one.
"Democrats say that no one should live like this. Republicans say that everyone should live like this."
Sell the masses the lie that under the Repulican rule you too could be rich like this, but you're not going to get that way if the socialist Democrats stay in office.

I haven't seen too many democrats in office that say "no one should live like this" either, and I'm pretty sure that most of them actually do live exactly like that....

Yes, but when was a Republican statement about a Democrat ever accurate? For them to have a chance to win, they have to demonize their opponents with images that don't even remotely resemble reality.

You're right, Rythm. They are doing their dead level best to create one by dragging us back to the pre-Teddy Roosevelt days when the Robber Barons ran rampant and the poor lived in shitty tenements and worked in unsafe factories for a pittance. The republicunts and the libertarian allies call that "freedom" but its really only freedom for them.
