Only in communist China, North Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Everywhere else where a trial and a judicial process is required the costs ad up so much that actualy imprisoning the convict for life would be cheaper.

If we could be absolutely certain of apprehending the correct people, then has anyone already suggested torture? A life time of being butt fucked in jail and dismemberment were good suggestions. Going after the balls instead, in addition to cutting down future sex drive, also offers the prospect of greater pain.

New poll: should the victims of rape be offered the option of taking a hammer to their assailant's testicles? If so, should this be done publicly?
Man, for a bunch of liberals who condemn hate and violence so much, you guys are bloody vicious! (and you guys think the prisoners at Gitmo have it bad)! I couldn't be that cruel....the humane thing to do would be to end the suffering of that poor violent criminal by lethal injection.

Yeah, I surprise myself sometimes. I can really be one vindictive sonofabitch. You may be relieved to know I've never acted on these impulses .. so far.

Does it really?

Just curious, do we have any stats for this information?

Right now, as I understand it, Australia is spending billions on "life sentences" and much more on it's refugee system.... I could be wrong since my information is from news sources.

Way ahead of you on the video games. I don't play any. Violent movies might be tougher. We're planning to go see the new Tarantino movie .. and if there is one thing you can count on is lots of violence. I'll try not to let it go to my head.

Of course, I did preface all my ball peen hammer remarks on the assumption of certain guilt. As a practical matter I have the same difficulty with the death sentence so I couldn't really support either. Still in the Tarantino movie of my fantasy life, I sure would like to hand that rape victim in India (or her surviving husband) that hammer and let him even the score.

Court cases in a democracy, where there is a fair justice system, are alway very expensive.
We could of course change into a dictatorship, abandone our fair justice systems and then reinterduce the deathpenalty as a costeffective thing without a fair trial.

Which would be bollocks.

Thankyou, I'm a bit time poor at the moment. Undecided

No one is assuming that there won't be a "fair trial" and due process. I am focusing on keeping said convicted alive for 20+ years as opposed to a death penalty.

RE: Death penalty for rapists?
One small correction to the OP...

The "rape every 20 minutes" statistic is actually allowing for the frankly woeful under reporting of rape that India has. Nearly every guidebook I have read has outright stated that India is unsafe to travel in for women unless you wish to be subject to sexual harassment and the stories of rape and harassment victims are nearly universal. Far more so than in the UK...

The UK actually posts more rape than India, a country of 60 million posting higher stats than the country of 1.2 billion? There is either something wrong with the UK or there is a massive under report rape. A quick check and you quickly realise that even if India had the same rape rates as the UK (A country with a 1 in 3 report rate) the current rape reports would be around 1% of the total rapes. If we assume the incidence of rape is the same in India as it is in the UK you would have roughly a million rapes a year (which is a lot higher than the 1 in 20 minutes stat).

These are purely reported rapes and in India a lot of rapes are simply ignored. (I was at one of the protests providing medical coverage)

The city of Delhi should have around 15,000 rapes. It only reports 600... That isn't "good" that's "women aren't getting help".

Oh and in India marital rape is legal. If you marry someone you give consent at all times. You can be "legally" raped by your husband.
What difference does it make to be an atheist of 999,999 gods rather than a 1,000,000?

Thank you for your post!

I just reread my source a rape is reported to the police every 20 minutes in India.

The unreported number is probably higher.

Well, the debate on the financial side should not be held from my point of view. Because no one has the right to put a value on a human life.

The question should be if a community has the right to kill one of it`s members, in it`s name.

And there I clearly say no.
