For People Who Think There Was No Historical Jesus
RE: For People Who Think There Was No Historical Jesus
I did have a gardner, when I lived in the USA many years ago named Jesus. I have yet to meet anyone named Elohim, Jehovah, or any other God name (unless you count Diana).

There was an actress called Sabrina - Sabrina was the goddess of the River Severn. I suppose most deity names are too unusual to be popular in the Western World.

I know it's pronounced Hey Soos in Spanish but I don't know what that would be in Hebrew.

I remembered the pronunciation because of that old Western series, Rawhide

It would be "Aha! A horse!" ("soos" is a male horse.)

Although tranliterating and then turning into Hebrew does not really work. And context is always important.

For example, there is a bird called the "bulbul". My wife and I were visiting Niagra Falls and visited an aviary. The woman picked up the bulbul and I smirked and asked "You must like that bulbul", "I have never seen such a beautiful bulbuil, have you?" "That is one big bulbul!"

My wife, while containing herself banged me in the ribs more than once as I kept trying to come up with other such statements. They looked at the two of us like we were nuts, but we were just weird Israelis.

"Bulbul" in Hebrew means penis.

I love the idea of a Messiah called Aha-a-horse, though. Big Grin

ROFLOL

I'm currently amusing myself by going through church histories trying to figure out who forged what and when. I'm writing my ideas out but I won't post them until I've read everything through a dozen times to make sure it all works.

For example, Marcion forged Paul's epistle to the Philippians and refers to Clement as if everyone should have known who he was. Was this added in during the time when Tertullian said Marcion had mutilated Paul's letters? Did Clement write First Clement? If he didn't somebody forged it but who and why? If Clement hadn't existed it would require forging records to say he'd existed as well. Why go to all that trouble if you could just pick a bishop from the right time period who wasn't known for writing a lot of books and manuscripts?

Even Eusebius doubted that Second Clement was authentic. He also knew about some of the Pseudo-Clementine writings because in his Church History he said "And certain men have lately brought forward other wordy and lengthy writings under his name, containing dialogues of Peter and Apion. But no mention has been made of these by the ancients; for they do not even preserve the pure stamp of apostolic orthodoxy. The acknowledged writing of Clement is well known."

This indicates that forgers had to be very careful even in those days if they hoped to fool people.

So Eusebius believed and reported a hand written letter from Jesus, which he lost or his dog ate it, had the original copy of Matthew in the "language of the Jews", and lost that, and this guy has doubts that Second Clement was authentic? I dunno. There had to be a lot of proof, like a big sign "I AM A FAKE" stuck to the front of it for this guy to have any doubts! Big Grin
