There was a time in my life when I would spend 2 weeks in the south of Portugal, the Algarve, where the beach invites you to stay there for the whole day.... so I would... 2 weeks in a row.
After a while, I'd get burnt, even if I was wearing sunscreen.
A week or so later, the burned outer skin would flake off and I got a nice tan... at the cost of some future melanoma... it's been over 15 years and no such nasty things manifested yet :thumbs up:

And I see all the northerners like you that come to Portugal... after a day or so they're real lobsters... hehe
Can't understand what makes fair skinned people so eager to become lobsters...

I see alot of Brits around Algarve sunbathing like crazy. When I go on vacation, I get up around 8-9 am, go to the beach a while untill 11-12, leave for lunch, only returning around 4-5 pm, thus avoiding the smoldering noon sun. The Brits on the other hand go to the beach around 11-12, that is damn nuts! There isn't enough sunscreen that can protect you at those dangerous hours, not even mentioning their fair skin. Poca is definately right, after a while they look like lobsters, outch!

Most Brits seem pretty keen to die of skin cancer, it seems. I don't understand the appeal of sunbathing. Why go all the way to another country just to lie there and cook? They'll still tan if they actually get up and do something, but they might actually learn something in the process.

Not quite on the beach, but it is approaching 1pm... and rather sunny. But I'm well covered and have all my sunscreen going on. Lol

I thnk the point is "relaxing" but most people I know relax every day in front of their tv. I'd perish of boredom if I had to lie in the sun.

After working out some nights, I would go into a tanning booth. It was a good way to come down from the exercise, it was warm and lasted only 10 minutes at most. It was nice in the winter. Now I'd just as soon pop the vitamin D and stay near a window.

Then again, we've hit the hotter-than-sweaty-balls phase of summer
