How to Train a Mormon

I think her big argument is that she has free will and she chooses to obey because it makes her happy?

Am I getting that right? I got lazy towards the end and just skimmed.

If that is her argument she completely missed the point of the Milgram Experiment. It is to show that humans are willing to obey just because of authority. Saying it's ok not to question all of it because it makes me happy is really side stepping the issue.

Did you read the same article that I did?!

Although I'm not a Mormon, I do see people guided by the Spirit. She has the Lord, and its smooth sailing ahead!

Here's much of what you missed in your rush back here to malign her:

"I ride a bike because I love it. Simply put, it makes me happy. I have had amazing experiences riding my bike in Moab, on the beach, and through canyons. However, if you were to ask me to explain how that bike was built, I would have a hard time breaking it down for you. There are things I still don’t know about bikes even though I ride one all the time.

These are things I am learning piece by piece about my bike through my life’s experiences. If I get a flat tire, I focus on the tires, I get advice, I find a way to fix it, and I continue riding.

The same principle applies to my faith in the LDS Religion. I am obedient because when I keep the commandments I am undoubtedly happy. I have had amazing experiences from learning to give to others, forgiving enemies, loving my neighbor, and making decisions for the greater good.

However, when people ask me specific details about the church or unusual doctrines I sometimes don’t know all the answers. I don’t know the ins and outs of some principles and I am continuing to build my knowledge piece by piece. When I don’t understand something or a section of my faith is broken, I stop, I focus on it, and I pray for answers. I seek counsel of prophets and other mentors, and I pray for personal revelation. But through that whole process I hold on to the other ideas I know to be true. The foundations of the gospel that have always blessed my life."

"I believe this is the root of obedience within the LDS church. It isn’t about what we don’t know, but it’s about what we do know, what we are seeking to know, and the actions we take in order to follow God.
So when you ask, “How do you train a Mormon?” The answer is: you don’t. You empower them to make their own decisions in the best way possible."

Well, doesn't it stand to reason that instead of ignoring the hard questions about something she blindly holds to be true, that she should seek out the answers to them so that she won't be blindsided every time? No, she never reasoned that way. That's why she's blissfully ignorant...but when her ignorance encourages her to make decisions based on her blind faith instead of knowledge (voting comes to mind) then we are all in trouble.

I have half a mind to post a picture of my testicles now.

Whoa, whoa,whoa....she has the lord.....really Ronedee????

Her lord and savior visited here couple hundred years ago and told her prophet Joey Smith to reestablish his church because you catlicks, among others, were screwing it up.

Pray tell, have you righted your ship and found the right path Ronedee????

Are you converting to Mormonism????....atta boy
remember......no-salvation-without-joseph-smith

In his article entitled "Joseph Smith Among the Prophets" printed in the June 1994 issue of "Ensign" magazine, Mormon writer Robert L. Millet quoted second LDS Prophet Brigham Young, who, in 1859, stated, "From the day that the priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding up things of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are -- I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent" (Journal of Discourses 7:238. See also Search These Commandments, 1984, pg. 133).

Or are you saying her delusional belief is somehow helpful to her???

Whats up Ronedee....careful the popes listening....

God, nor I listen to men.

You, and your compadres fail to realize that a personal relationship w/ God doesn't involve anything a man has to say, including the Pope.

All that you know and understand comes from your own, and/or others minds. You can't think on your own because you have no spiritual connection to a higher source.

How can anyone speak [for] God?

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
