That's what I'm trying to get at. CoD is always "the same" because the consumers ask for that.
I found battlefield 3 boring. Call of duty is irritating though.
The king of FPS, Halo of course.

I personally don't enjoy games where all you can do is shoot stuff. Unless you get to hold a plastic gun while you're shooting stuff. That's fun.

I prefer holding a metal gun, shooting plastic at people while they shoot back.
For me its always the competitive part of playing FPS games. I hate playing single player FPS games but stick me against other humans and I love humiliating them. Well used to. It gets too easy after a while.

It's a shame that nowadays the FPS genre is far less creative when it comes to single player. I remember the days of playing Star Wars battlefront, timesplitters 1 & 2 and even the Medal of Honor games at the time. The single player in these games was genuinely brilliant. I used to spend hours creating my own levels and playing against bots in timesplitters, it was so awesome that you could do that.
These days the big names like cod and battlefront just focus on rebranding their multiplayer, while their single players' are all just generic, soulless, linear shooting ranges.

Hopefully they do a good job of that. But yeah.. I completely agree. I used to spend forever building maps on Farcry, Timesplitters and Halo 3. You could set up your own entire gametypes or missions too. Now its just your usual on the rails shoot everything on sight mission with a wave survival mini-game afterwards.

Just realised the original Battlefront games weren't FPS's anyway, my bad.
*edit*
BUT I've also just realised the new one being made by Dice is more than likely going to be, so, in essence, it's kinda relevant. Maybe. I dunno.

Its a shame, I do like 3rd person games. I just hope they don't take the easy option and pretty much just re-skin BF4. If they can keep the fun of the old battlefront games and add their own style of destruction & chaos it will be something worth getting. I won't hold my breath though.
