So, I'm Getting Confirmed

RE: So, I'm Getting Confirmed
I don't think anyone who tells you to lie to your parents really cares about you. You say you love your parents. Don't you think they love you? You don't have to believe as they do, but that's no reason to turn against them. Obviously, you've never told them how you feel. Why do you think they're going to turn against you? Family is the tightest relationship you have. Think about what they've done for you during yur lifetime. No one is going to care more about you than family.

You must live in a bubble where everything is rainbows and sunshine.

Sometimes family does more damage to a person than a criminal.

The OP isn't turning against his parents; he's worried about them turning against him.

Have you seen how they react to nonbelievers or atheists? If you have, use your best judgement with regards to whether or not to come out to them (it seems like your best judgement would be not to).

If you are making an assumption about how they will react it might be an good exercise to test the waters in some way. Find a news article or blog post or something that makes an argument against religion (bonus points if it's your denomination) and see how they react.

If they react negatively you can pass it off as "Just sharing the idiocy of some people" and you can continue on to your confirmation at least knowing for sure you shouldn't probably come out.

If they react noncommittally, or at least less negatively than you thought they might, it might be safe to take the next step and share a second argument against religion and say something like "they make a good point" and see how they feel about you at least sympathizing. Again, if they react negatively you can pass it off by saying something like "I don't agree, I just see their point" or something.

Obviously, this would work best on a long time scale so as not to arouse suspicions about why you've taken a sudden interested in atheism - although even that might plausibly be passed off as researching arguments for your confirmation paper, you know, 1 Peter 3:15 and all...
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

I'm a parent who knows how he would react, which would be out of love. You can't cram christianity down someone's throat, they have to be open to accept it. I hear a lot of sterotypes about christians on this website which are probably true about some, but they're not true of the majority. I'm a christian and I know because I'm around them all the time. You're right about family sometimes causing damage, but in the huge majority of cases it's the other way around. He says he loves his parents, which is an indication that they having been caring to him. Communication problems probably cause more trouble than anything else in families. I believe the break-up of the family is one of biggest reasons for crime, drug use, and school drop-out. In lthis case I still say open up about it. If his parents go ballistic, then he can take it from there.

All non-believers should fear hell, and I like it how atheist always and I mean always believe Christians refer to hell when they make a statement that doesn't say anything about hell. Know what that says about those who do that, hell scares them with a fright they can't let go of.

rasetsu Wrote:Or perhaps he was drawing a logical conclusion based on the context of your overt representations, the express and implied context, and his familiarity with impotently threatening Christian twats like you.

Perhaps it's because he's afraid and looked to be accusing to satisfy that fear. I said nothing about hell, I did not threaten and can't threaten because I'm not his judge. All I did was to point out lies come with consequences, consequences that come in many forms. He's the one who mentioned hell and that I was threatening him with it, I gave a rebuttal of his notion and notion is exactly what it was. It's irresponsible of you to believe I did something different than what I explained, jumping to such conclusions just makes for an non valid comment.

If you lie and get caught how do you think your parents who love you, whether you love them or not, will feel.

rasetsu Wrote:And here is an explicit lie on your part because your post made clear it was about lying "to God," not to other people. The only thing funnier than your impotent terroristic threats is how desperately you try to backpedal and disown them when you're caught out at it. Maybe he doesn't fear hell so much as the behavior of disingenuous, lying Christian assholes like you who make peoples' lives a hell here on earth.

And you know it's a lie how, because you say it is, what I said was he can't lie to God. Now since he can't lie to God who else is left, the people at the school and his parents. I'm not backpedaling, I explained it like it is, I didn't threaten him just warn of repercussions when one lies. If I were going to tell him he would go to hell for lying I would, but I did not even think that. If your or his life here is like a hell then you've made it that way, but your just like all other childish people, you want to put the blame for your failures on others. You want and can't accept responsibility for your actions because you're a coward, just like our little boy in this discussion you're afraid, of what, life, why, because you do not have one. Your life consists of coming here to call people names and jump on the bandwagon against people who see life for what it is, sad really sad.

Poor G-C....can't handle the fact that anyone who disagrees with him or his barbaric cult will not burn for eternity like his murderous god says. In his case ignorance is not only bliss it is mandatory.

Christianity doesn't demand anything, nor does God, you only say things like that to be a dishonest drip, who has no arguments against scripture and you know this.
Christ is correct in what He said, those who love others and other things more than Him will put those things before Him, our savior. When Christ becomes first in a persons life every one in that persons life becomes more important to them, we can see a greater value in people we love through the eyes of Christ. Christ gives us an understanding of the love God has and that love is to be applied to ones life.

So essentially you dedicate your first sentence to calling me a liar, and then the second paragraph to accepting that yes, everything I just said was the truth, I just didn't phrase it in the happy feelgood way that you'd want.

And I'm the one being dishonest here? Thinking
