Deuteronomy 23:2

Before Christ only those/that with out spot or blemish may share a space with the 'set apart.' After Christ's atonement was offered on our behalf, we could then go to God as we are.

Still not getting why someone should be penalized by something they have no control over.

Don't forget to change your underwear. You know, in case there's an emergency. You don't want your first time seeing God being ruined by your shitty drawers. Or do you shit with your heavenly body?

God in the OT was compared to a consuming fire. And in the temple (the holy of holies) God physically manifested himself. Only the 'perfect'/clean could be near God without being consumed by this fire.. Think Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark, when the nazis opened the ark.

The 'unclean' were order to stay away as to not be consumed by this light or fire.

This was not a punishment but a warning, a way to ensure people followed the rules.

It's like having weapons grade plutonium. What would happen if a kid got hold of a block and carried it to school for show and tell? Everyone would have gotten sick and died.. So what do we do? We keep that stuff out of the reach of kids..

Laws like this were the only way the Jews had of 'classifying' something as common as sex as being as dangerous as plutonium is to us.

Unfortunately I have a 'track' record making clean underwear 'unclean' in the case of emergencies. So it really does not matter.

Well God wasn't married to Mary so if this is fact, Jesus would be in hell. Or God. Lol...

Some of Yahweh's best people have done worse than be born out of wedlock, though. I guess it was just supposed to be a warning against people having sex with just anybody, but the way they put it just keeps making their deity out of be a bad person. much like the whole Egypt thing, where they say Yahweh hardened the pharaoh's heart without even thinking that the act of removing his free will puts all the death that comes afterwards solely at the feet of Yahweh. Making him totally responsible for killing infants and toddlers just to prove a point.

They really needed to think these things through better if they wanted to portray Yahweh as ultimately loving, merciful, and just.

Loving and God do not go together. In any religion.

The assembly has nothing to do with heaven or hell. It about being able to worship at their version of church service.

free will as you understand it is a Greek philosophy and not a biblical truth. Through out the bible we are told we are slaves. Pharaoh was not a free man. Whether he liked it or not he fell under the authority of God. God per Moses issued his servant/slave pharaoh a command. Pharaoh before his heart was hardened to God and Moses off. When dealing with Bronze Age goat hearders one has to exert a show of force from time to time to get them to fall in line. Even the ones whole like to stack stones.

At that time that was not the goal. At that time the Goal was to eastablish God's absolute ness His strength and authority. Love mercy and peace was not possible till Christ died on the cross.

It's an old atheist mind trick.

They use a convoluted translation that then can be interpreted any number of way to make God out to be anyway they want.

Here is the easy to read version

2 If a man’s parents were not legally married, that man may not join with the men of Israel to worship the Lord. And none of his descendants to the tenth generation—may join in that group.

Although chad was not trying to trick anyone it looks to have been an honest mistake that he later addressed
