I considered watching the show, but I never go around to it.

Just watched it, very nice! It is much much better than the trailer led me to assume.
Oh, look, there it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFKOcWbHuKU
Thanks Alex!
I grew up on Cosmos. In fact, the first scientific book I ever read was Sagan's Cosmos. Sagan has always been a monumental hero for me. One of the things that I always say when people ask me one way they could prove some higher intelligence exists in the universe is the way Sagan suggests in Contact.
This was a wonderful throwback and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Me, too. I enjoyed it, but I found myself expecting a show more along the lines of Planet Earth. I'm tentatively disappointed with hopes that this was just an introductory episode and future episodes will really dive into juicy science morsels. Did anyone else think that the judge at Bruno's trial looked like a cross between Rasputin and Jafar?!?!? Also, the Pope looked like a pimp. Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
I thought it was great... but I hope the anti-religious stuff gets turned down because they could lose a ton of viewers.
Hard to tone down history... The church's sordid past is a part of the story. If people are offended by it, then they likely aren't hearing the message anyways.
