It's really very very simple. Atheists don't believe there is any god or gods. That is the one and only requirement to be an atheist. Therefore atheism is not a religion or a philosophy. It's just a label for people who do not believe in god.
However, there are some religions like Buddhism that are compatible with atheism because the religion does not include gods. There are also some philosophies born out of atheism like Humanism which is about morals and meaning without god. But none of these things are necessary to being an atheist. And atheism as a whole does not have tenets.

If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
