I'm in Tennessee. My garden consists of a mimosa tree and some gardenias. And a peony. I think.
Yours looks like paradise. Eden, one might say...
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The cottonmouth up there that looks like a close-up was from about seven feet away. The closest I've been to a venomous snake is when I almost stepped on this juvenile cottonmouth -- he was coiled up and though I'd seen him, I thought he was a racoon turd. I got my camera in close:
Yea, I agree with you that snakes just want to be left alone. My brother has a ball python, and she's a sweetheart, but I'm still afraid. Nice pics.

Great thing about being an insomniac is I never miss a good sunrise. Now if only I had another camera besides my cellphone. Yesterday the sun rose extra early (starting just before 5am) right under a crescent moon. My phone couldn't really get the moon but it was absolutely breathtaking.
On not so good note my cousin's mastiff/pitbull mix snapped at my 19 month old yesterday. She's alright but she has a pretty nice gash on her head and ear. Those two seconds from when he snapped and when she was in my arms were the longest and most terrifying of my life. I will spare you the bloody pictures, but here's the one from just a few minutes before.

I love dawn. My very favorite time to be alive. However, lack of sleep is not a good thing. I suppose you can't take an Ambien when you have kids. What I do is not worry about one bad night of sleep. But I always take an Ambien the next night to nip it in the bud. I don't really get cranky until the second bad night of sleep.
But I also have sleep apnea. Love my CPAP machine. I no longer have any expectation of sleeping without it. Power goes out and I get a series of 5 to 10 minute naps in between gasps until it is restored. Anyone can have it. Have you ever had a sleep study? (Please take care of yourself.)

So scary! I guess I know what animal will be canine non grata in your house from now on. So glad your wee one is okay.
I just returned the dog I'd adopted in December to the rescue organization I got him from. I really liked that little guy but he bit a friend at the dog park and bit through a new truck tire. The final straw was when my brother told me he was scared for his kids.

If I had a gun and knew how to use it I would have. He is locked up out back. He's always been around kids and never had a problem but I shouldn't have let my guard down.

Don't beat yourself up. We humans are funny in that we extend trust to other animals even as we know they're not bound by human scruples; it's natural to do so with the family pet.
