Speak Out !!

RE: Speek Out !!
That rally in Austin looked like something I would participate in. It's only a 1 hour drive for me from here to there.

Then I saw it was on Sunday? The damned place is closed. There will be no one of any significance in their offices. The rally would be MUCH more effective if held on a buisness day when the pukes are actually in their offices and subjected to the cheers/bullhorns/rallies of the protesters.

AND the dumbasses hold it on Mother's Day! Most folks, like me, have plans to take their mum out to a fancy-shmancy eatin' place that day.

*Dotard lets out a huge sigh*

Even the atheists in Texas are dumbasses. I swear I'd move if it weren't for the climate, cheap pot and illegal mexican alien prostitutes.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

RE: Speak Out !!
Anyone who knows me knows that I am an athiest. I've had more facebook debates with friends and relatives than I can remember, i'm very abrasive when it comes to religion because there are several phrases like "we're praying for you" and "it's in gods hands" that are really hot button issues with me. I'm proud to be an athiest, I don't wear t-shirts or anything, but I think it comes down to the fact that I think it's important for athiests to be outspoken. For 10,000 years religion has been the ruling ideology, it has controlled kings, emperors, presidents and dictators. A lot of people like me died over the last couple thousand years because they chose to think outside of the box. If I were alive 500 years ago, I would be burned at the stake. That's a source of disdain for me.

Some people are more humble about it, and that's cool too. But it's my honest belief that 90% of the world's population are very naive, and willfully ignorant. When the majority believe, when theology controls government, controls society, progress, technologically and socially is stunted. How much time have we wasted, how much good could have come from our species if we hadn't dedicated lifetimes to this fallacy? And if by speaking to me, 1 out of every 50 people that I talk to begin to question what they believe, begin to question things that they thought were off limits, then it's a small victory for free thought. Religion has supressed free thought since the birth of civilization. It has to change. And it changes when we become bold, when we forsake safety, forsake complacency and let our voices be heard. I'm tired of being unable to watch a presidential debate without the question of churches or ideologies coming up. I'm tired of kids dying because their parents take them to church for prayer instead of a hospital. We are smarter than that, better than that, and the responsibility is placed upon people who see things differently, and want things to be different to speak up. You don't have to preach, like i'm doing right now..:p, but at the very least don't be ashamed. I preach because it's my nature to be loud and aggressive. It's my nature to push people into defending themselves when I think they are wrong. And I don't feel the least bit sorry for it. Society needs conflicting sides for balance. And what kind of balance do we have in a country like the US when presidents are still sworn in with a bible, when people protest funerals as some divine punishment. Society changes when enough people of a common mind and common goal unite and force issues. Imagine if Thomas Jefferson, or Martin Luther King, or anyone else who made a real impact on society had kept their mouth shut. What kind of world would we live in when those with opposing idealisms were too afraid to speak out against the majority? Every revolution begins with a single act of defiance[/sermon] Wink

I agree with all your points Demon, however most revolutions are played out in real like and not entirely on an intellectual basis. Careful that your call for revoultion doesn't have too many casualties......I'm all for social reform and cutting off church from state and freedom of speech/ideas. Cutting off religon and the spiritual side out of humainty .. that would probably take a more enlightenment approach than a revolutionary one, IMO. I don't get into politics much though. I'm sure min has his thoughts.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

RE: Speak Out !!
Another enlightment period is exactly what I mean. Nothing would please me more than to see a world without religion, although even at our present point in civilization, is still far-fetched. I'm not asking people to take up arms and start killing, that's what they do, we're better than that. Just don't stand on the sidelines and hope the Sam Harris' and Richard Dawkins' of the world will do the job for you. When you vote, vote for people who aren't bound by ideologies, don't vote for people who think jesus wants them to go spread freedom dust on the middle east. When you see the church encroaching on your state government, federal government, etc, speak out, go to rallies. People bled and died so that us Americans could do that. No one can stop you from that, you can protest whatever you like, whenever you want. Be proud of who you are, don't bow down to the bible thumping tyrants. Stand defiant, boldly push them into a corner and hammer a submission from them. 10 years ago, roughly 5 percent of the world's population was athiest, now it's approaching 20. We have a stronger political position now, we just have to make it happen.[/twocents]

RE: Speak Out !!
Some of us have job interviews to deal with, so pardon me if I state that flaunting your atheism is just as bad ™ as a religious person flaunting their chosen doctrine.

I prefer to leave it as an unspoken fact that only my closest allies and friends know, with the rest either suspecting or oblivious.

By your silence it shall remain so. Things never change just because Synackaon, change is a slow, painful process. My point in flaunting it is that it forces people to address the issue, and by address I mean stop treating me like a goddamn devil worshipper for questioning their precious lawwwd.
