The most pressing and present set of risks with regards to incestuous relationships or procreation in the US, for example, are the legal set of risks.

Okay so I can't find the penalty for Ohio, but in Ohio it is only illegal for parents, adoptive parents, step-parents, or parental figures regardless of age or consent. Everything else is legal.

The explanation for why there is a risk of that a newborn gets some sort of mental disorder even when his parents are from different families is because our very far ancestors have most likely committed incest not understanding the unwanted effects of these relationships. Back then, there were less people than today and genetic diversity of the human race was low. As history passed, more and more people came to Earth, and as an effect of that, genetic diversity of humans got high. When genes that transfer information for cognitive abilities collide, there is a 89.7% chance that the product of this collision will either have some sort of mental disorder or retardation. When a brother and sister have sex, chances that the genes that transfer information for cognitive abilities will have a collision are increased by 50%. I was thinking that vorlon13, in the core of what he was trying to say, was right. I didn't pay much attention of how he tried to explain it nor if he has by any chance misrepresented it, sorry.

Whoa! Reign that in. That's a huge negatory right there. That's not how we explain mental disorders -at all-. I think you'd have to rule out a conjunction between mars and venus before you even considered that gem.

I want to reiterate here that my position - as accurately as I can express it - is that I don't care if brothers and sisters decided to screw like rabbits. 1st generation incest risk is a blip in the radar smaller than any measurement error. It takes many generations for it to overcome that first, minor step.

One question what does homosexuality has to do with incest? Because the approval or disapproval towards the gay community doesnt change or interfere with the opinion that the citizens have about incest does it? One can be gay and still hate incest, or be in a incestual relationship yet be homophobic. Incest and homosexuality are two different things. I know a couple of parents of the same sex that will prefer to kill themselves before having sex with their children.

As for answering to your questions.
I wouldn't declare incest illegal but since I don't believe in marriage I wouldn't vote yes to allow them to marry.

And also I will need more info and time thinking before discussing those who have sex with their biological parents or grandparents. Because Ive never heard of a relationship of that kind that ended well for someone.

The conjunction between Mars and Venus is that they're both deities that originated from ancient Rome. And I did not say that mental disorders are caused only by productive incest relationship, I apologize if I was unclear on that.

My biology textbook - that dates around 2009. The publisher does not have a web site and the textbook is not translated to English, unfortunately. The numbers themselves are not accurate because they change every year as a result of yet more genetic diversity added to the pool.
