Generating hope and faith in oneself

Generating hope and faith in oneself
Having hope in succeeding and believing in your capabilities is not easy for everyone. It is probably a necessary requirement to reaching one's goals in life.

One thing that helps me a lot is believing we are here for a purpose and I believe God has faith in us or he wouldn't have created us in the first place. The purpose is such that it's universal, so I believe we all can live meaningful lives.

I am wondering what do you guys find helps with belief in oneself and hope in good outcomes and success?

Believing in yourself is overrated. Having a good result counts more as long as the means are appropriate. I've always had low expectations on everything, I guess that's why I'm happy, in highschool I used to score 90/100 in some tests and when the teacher asked my reaction I replied 'I was expecting a 60/100 at best, anything higher is a bonus'. I don't know what this is called.. Maybe pessimism?

I guess I find hope in the fact that good things have happened to me before, and I continue to put effort in revisiting those good things while trying to avoid the bad. It's not really so complicated.

So, you won't believe in yourself without a superman in the sky ?

It's easier to believe in yourself if you've been gifted with high intelligence, good looks and no physical or mental handicaps.

Is that a self description?

Yep. Although you folks might say that I have a mental handicap.

I'll keep that firmly in mind. No lowering the rational standards for Lek.

My track record speaks well enough for me. I believe I can succeed because I've done it. Not the crazy success of the rich and famous, but still success. I've been able to raise children in a stable home, put food on their plates and clothes on their backs and even have enough left entertainment, vacations, and the like all as a single-income family. No gods required.

Why should I believe I will ever do anything but succeed? Sure, there may be (and have been) setbacks along the way, some of them major, but you don't need any outside force for success.

Meh. I don't just say it. You've made me a believer. Big Grin

On a more serious note, you do make valid points that it's easier to believe in yourself without serious handicaps (whether physical or mental) but I think experience is far better at developing lasting self-worth. If you've been there and done that before, you know you can go there and do it again.

Again, no gods required.

I suppose my moral integrity and standards was instilled in me by my parents. Self confidence and faith in my abilities comes from knowing I am at least as good as an other human being out there and a bit better than some. But I also know that it can all slide away if I don't try. I have seen that happen to other people.
I always try to have integrity and to deal with other people fairly.
