Job forces me to attend church
#11
RE: Job forces me to attend church
I took a job replacing light fixtures at a Catholic church once. It took a week, and a parishioner even helped move chairs and stuff around so I could get the scaffolding in the right places.

I didn't have to sit through mass however. Blech!

The building was really cool, architecturally, very modern and different from any other church building I had been in. I may not have been too thrilled about the Catholic angle, but I've worked on a special building and feel some pride in that.

Maybe my presence in the building and my work in it has subtly altered the 'theological' purity of the light they use? Maybe their God considers them tainted now ??

Lol That's funny.

This church is very bland. No windows. Only a painted cross and some silk draping down from the ceiling. :/

Also, I just want everyone to know that I'm a difficult person, I know this. Lol. This is just seriously something I've been battling with for a very long time. I'm a strong advocate when it comes to not having religion forced on to people within the work place. I always have been. I greatly appreciate the advice from all stances.

I used to have to attend church occasionally for a similar job. Look at it as opportunity to learn about the religious mind from a sociology angle. And as a wolf inside the sheep's pen, perhaps you'll even have a chance to swallow a sheep or two.

Precisely what I did today, aside from swallowing sheep lmao

But, I did sit back and listen to the sermon. I took it as a learning experience, kind of had to before I freaked out on someone. They seriously do believe that without god, you're like old, dried out dirt.

They literally told the kids this story today. About how god planted seeds in a stony environment, a dry dirt environment and a rich soil environment. This guy described the dry, sandy dirt as someone who doesn't believe in god and doesn't do good things for him, he described the stony environment as someone who questions if there is a God, then the rich soil...yeah , That's where the Christians think they are.

Ironically, he was using plants as a reference in religion...wtf

Lol I'm sure they're going to spread. There was a lesbian who attended church with her girlfriend today. The one that was dressed more masculine came over and asked my name. I told her and she sat with me. She asked me why I was alone and where my husband was. I told her, "well, I'm Morghan. My fiance is currently at work and I'm Also here due to work." Then she asked why I was sectioning myself off and just sitting there alone. All, I explained (after getting her name) , "well, Sam, I'm actually an atheist but I come here for my client. She is schizophrenic and this seems to be the only place that gives her a Bit of relaxation, otherwise I would never be here."

Then we got into discussing what atheism really is and such. So, then I asked her if she's ever questioned her faith...really actually studied the Bible and tried to figure out WHY people turn away from religion..she stated she had but coming out gay was hard enough. So then she actually left with her girlfriend in the middle of the sermon and thanked me. Smile

Lol... Jesus was fond of comparing his audience to plants and herd animals and even called them to be like gullible children...I wonder if Christians in search of the historical Jesus take that into account.

You have to be pleasant to your patient - after all, that's just a job.

Your co-workers can be invited to go fuck themselves.

So I've told them multiple times. Lmao

I am very nice to her but she's so closeted and sheltered that she didn't even know what this pictures of earth was. Yeah...how ridiculous.

Is there a uniform requirement?

Because it doesn't sound as if your patient would understand this....

and your co-workers would need it explained to them.

NOPE. There isn't Smile I wear something affiliated to atheism every day so it's always when I work too. They don't get it. It pisses them off that I wear it though because it's "religious material." Trust me, we've gone rounds and they finally shut up. Lol. They wear their crosses and Jesus shit. I'm just wearing a scientific shirt; )
