Have I Told You At Least Once Today That I Love You?

But who is indebted to whom? The person who has provoked my feelings of love have given me a gift. Whether I have given them the same gift isn't altogether under either of our control. But beyond anything too mushy, there is just affection and appreciation. If you feel those things, why not say so? We don't say it on a schedule or as a ritual. But when I'm feeling it, it just seems right to say so. (It helps to compensate for the times I have to point out what an asshole she is being.) I'm sure I say it more than she does. But I don't feel like she 'should' say it more. I'm already the lucky one in that I get to feel moved to say so. No need to rub it in that she isn't as fortunate to have me as I am to have her. Or maybe she just isn't as tuned in to what she is feeling as often as I am. That is probably at least part of the reason. But it's important to remember that our minds are shaped and guided by the things we do and say and experience every day. On one hand, saying it frequently will make it a habitual thing. On the other... is that really such a bad thing? I don't think it is. I think it's a really good thing.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
