So I spoke in tongues today!

RE: So I spoke in tongues today!
Banned for being a cannibal.

Oops, sorry, wrong thread.
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

Is that anything like "I fart in your general direction?"

As per the article, you have to switch off the part of your brain that makes you think of your words. At the same time you have to switch on the physical parts that make you actually say the words. You have to focus on not thinking about your words but focus on moving your lips and tongue so you can vocalise. It's kinda fun when you do it in a setting with believers. So start practicing.

An awful lot a "mystic" stuff is like this. There are various sacred head spaces that can be gotten too with meditation. No god required.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

No, it usually refers to flowers or fruit... I reckon it cannot be translated well in English Tongue

"I fart in your general direction" Thinking No, there isn't anything like that Sad
I do get the reference though

I can imagine numerous Christer schisms liking speaking in tongues because it would be totally safe from falsification.

Even if a recording of someone speaking in tongues was totally indecipherable at the United Nations, they could still claim the gibberish is in a language lost long ago.

They can't be proven to ever be faking speaking in tongues, it's not possible. I'm surprised it's not a universal trait in all 40,000 christian denominations.

Yeah - and it helps with meeting their 'blithering idiot' criteria.

Wonder what the point of speaking in tongues is ??

Since they are indecipherable, how do the fellow parishioners know if God has sent them a VITAL missive or not ??

Or is the point just to fill up worship time and take some load off the pastor ???

Cause it's fun

Is Borat accurate in it's depiction cause at first I thought it was just a joke about Catholics (they worship in Latin (right?) which is gibberish :p)
