So, my boyfriend is a Muslim and I'm an Atheist. What do you guys (other Muslims) think about that?

Well, if you're happy together I hope you guys can make it work, just be prepared for a possibility of some tough conversations if he takes his faith seriously.

Get out. Get out fast.
His mother will come and screw you up for life until your kids get their wives and you do the same to them.
Keep him away from knives. And rocks. And sticks.

I suppose it depends on the level of theistic/Islamic insanity your BF is invested with. If he's mostly a live and let live, don't care-ist, should be OK. If not, you might want to cruise over to Craigslist "Casual Encounters" for a bit. What do you guys (other Muslims) think about that? lol we've been together almost 6 years now, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna go out and blow something out or behead someone. For the most part, I don't mind his religion, I just find some things annoying. Like when I go shopping and have to check every label for ingredients and then if I get something wrong, he'll refuse to eat it. Small stuff that I've never really thought of before but now I always have to keep in mind, since we just moved in together 4 weeks ago. Other than that we're pretty much fine with each other. Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Well, it's hard to explain his faith. We just moved in 4 weeks ago and he refuses to eat anything that's not halal, yet he hasn't prayed once ever since we moved so that's a bit confusing. I pretty much just let him be but we're good together, usual couple squabbles but nothing ice cream can't fix lol We've talked about his faith before though and we just agreed to let each other be and if one doesn't like what the other says or does, we just sit down and talk about it. We've been together almost 6 years so it's not like we don't have an understanding of what we've gotten ourselves into.
Few questions...
Do you live in an Islamic theocracy? Does your boyfriend know you're an atheist? and if he does, how does he reconcile that knowledge with the fact that the Qu'ran advocates the killing of non-believers? What does he think of the whole ISIS/ISIL/(IS?) situation? |
