What/Who created God?

RE: What created God?
Tavarish -

No I don't have to prove that god exists, not at all. Not in this thread. The thread is called "who created god", it is a question about a hypothetical god. The title doesn't mention anything about proving that god exists, nor does it ask anyone to do so. It's very specific. This is why you have changed the goalposts, because what you're asking me is off topic, and irrelevant. But I've answered your question despite that. The answer is : None whatsoever. But the theme of the topic remains nonetheless, and what I'm saying is that the attribute of selfexistence explains why a god would not have a creator, thus providing an answer to the title of this thread. You can either somehow refute that, or you can keep asking me that irrelevant question, but I've already answered it, not that the question even belongs here in this particular thread.

RE: What created God?
The question is: What created God?

My answer: Nothing. God does not exist. The idea of god(s) was created by the human imagination. If man did not exist, there would be no concept of god(s).

Godhead -

You claim that "God" is 'self-existent'... or as fr0d0 puts it, "God just is." Tavarish (or anyone else) is not out of line asking you why you believe that and/or if you can prove it or provide any reasons anyone else should believe it.

It's a question about a hypothetical god. Within that context, and for the sake of the topic of the thread and the question posed, god exists. The thread isn't called "does god exist?" It already assumes the existence, hypothetically, of god.

True. And you answered that you believe that "God is self-existent"... which leads to the next question. Why do you believe and/or how do you know that? The initial question concerning a 'hypothetical god' is a discussion starter. The follow-up questions are what is commonly considered 'the discussion'.

Are you unwilling to discuss it any further than the initial question? If so, why is that?

God being self existent answers the question. Any other questions belong elsewhere. Can you refute that selfexistence would explain how a hypothetical god would have no creator? It certainly does provide the answer.

So the answer to my question is: No, you are not willing.

Why not? It doesn't matter what the original question was, because your answer inspired new ones. Are you unaware of how a discussion actually works?

Santa being self existent answers the question. Any other questions belong elsewhere. Can you refute that selfexistence would explain how a hypothetical Santa would have no creator? It certainly does provide the answer.

Anyone can give an answer, not everyone can give the right one.
Santa is self-existant, prove otherwise.

God answers all questions, but so can anything else. Though it answers the questions, it doesn't mean it answered them correctly.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Is it true that when atheists talk about omnipotence being or not being compatible with omniscience, that they generally stay with that topic (which is based on a hypothetical god)? Why don't you want to stay with this one, when it is also about a hypothetical god? Richard Dawkins talks about how if, meaning hypothetically, if god exists, it would have to have evolved to become complex enough to be able to create. These questions are all hypothetical (ie for the sake of argument). I'm sticking with this hypothetical question, and offering an answer. If you want to stick it out and maybe refute how selfexistence would explain how god wouldn't have a creator, I'm happy to engage. If atheists ask hypothetical questions, they should stick with them rather than reverting to the usual, irrelevant topic of whether or not god exists. As an offered answer to this hypothetical question, it stands.

And when a theist makes a claim like "God is self-existent", they should have the fortitude to back up that claim when further questions are asked of them.

No not at all. It's a hypothetical question, just like whether or not omnipotence and omniscience are compatible, which is also asked by atheists themselves. Atheists asks a lot of hypothetical questions about a god which they already don't believe in, yet they still ask. So the question stands, and so does the answer.
