Yep. And we enjoy it. Or at least I do.

Me too, just finished the turkey and get ready to do the giblet gravy, the rest of the families bring all kinds of good stuff, we have many good cooks and a professional chef. Again Happy Thanksgiving to all, and I'm thankful for many things and the people here are definitely included.

It's my first thanksgiving, so I have very little idea about the minutia of it, but I'm excited all the same. Should be fun. Tongue

'Course, I also gotta take Luckie to the hospital for a while to get an IV done, but you can't have everything go right. Oh well. Undecided

Happy day of giving thanks for whatever, people!!

Now, the european in me wants to know:
Is it always on the 27th of November? Ir it always on the last Thursday of November?
Is tomorrow a holiday? Is today a holiday?
Why turkey? (as a curious aside, one of the traditional christmas night dinners around here is turkey... the other bacalhau and the other is goatling)

PS: please don't make me read the wiki article Tongue

RE: Thankful
It's always on Thursday. Today is a holiday. Tomorrow is Black Friday, arguably the most American holiday of them all. It's a turkey because Ben Franklin proposed to make the turkey our national bird, but pilgrims said "Fuck that! Lets eat the fuckers."(Lie)
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

As for the truth, I'm pretty sure it's a turkey because the Native Americans taught the pilgrims to hunt turkeys so they wouldn't starve to death.

No it wasn't and isn't always the 27th of November. It currently is the fourth Thursday of November. Before that the states all had different days for Thanksgiving. Lincoln set a national date of the last Thursday in November in 1863. FDR moved the date to the fourth Thursday of November in 1939 and congress ratified that decision in 1940.

And yes today is a holiday. Whether tomorrow is varies.

And yes there is a Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgivin..._States%29 but you don't have to read it. Wink

This day is about FOOD!!! Not Learning. Cooking is an art of gluttony and love, and you're ruining it with your interesting facts about Turkey Day.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Actually, turkey wasn't commonly eaten on Thanksgiving until after 1800, so I don't think Indian lessons or Franklin had much to do with it.

Remember that kid in school who couldn't sit silent when the teacher asked a question, especially if no one else put their hand up? That was me. Blush
