I know a number of good police officers. However, I see several bad trends that need to be fixed, and patting the good officers on the back won't fix them:
1) Discrimination against blacks and Hispanics (this one is old news);
2) Protection of bad police officers from any legal consequences for their actions (also old news);
3) Abuse of seizure laws (a growing problem over the last 30 years);
4) Dramatically increasing use of para-military force and swat teams for ordinary situations (another growing problem again over the last 30 years but increasing dramatically in the last 15 years or so);
5) Arresting people for filming police confrontations (yet another but newer growing problem);
6) Stop and frisk and road stops without probable cause (and yet another growing problem).
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
