I know, it should be classed as a wonder of the world. You can almost hear the "click" of their logic circuits disengaging as the subject changes.

Look it up
When you can compress the entire history of the Universe into the time between Oct. 23, 4004 BC and now, the Cambrian wasn't all that long ago.

Around 3000 BC?

More like 1785 CE...

You sure about that? The sketch wasn't a standalone one; it formed part of an entire collection put together by the VT department, lots of out-takes and bloopers (hence the 'traditional' response to fluffs and gaffes: "Merry Christmas, VT!") combined with specially shot material. Plenty of T&A and more swearing than a vicars' convention. The TV schedules, then as now, are prepared well in advance. If their private staff entertainment was broadcast, it wouldn't be by mistake and there would definitely be complaints, not to mention rolling heads.
I fear that the murky world of the internet rumour strikes again.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I was way off on the date of the Cambrian explosion. Being curious I did the arithmetic and on a scale of 6000 years total age, came up with the Cambrian explosion occurring about 800 years ago.
About the time the Mongols were traipsing around Asia and into Europe. Wonder what they thought of the trilobites?

Age of the Universe - A 13,800,000,000
Biblical Age of the Universe - B 6,000
Formula for Scale - S A/B
A/B= 2,300,000
Cambrian Explosion Years Before Present - C 530,000,000
Formula to convert C to Biblical Time C/S
C/S= 230
2015 - 230 = 1,785
But I could have done that wrong.

I used age of the earth (~4,000,000,000) and not age of the universe. Then, did cross multiplication (6000/x = 4,000,000,000/500,000,000) and got 750 for x.
Now you've got me wondering which is the "correct" reference point. AoU or AoE? It seems the biblical "dates" for both are the same.
Sorta like discussing the properties of dylithium crystals I suppose.

Don't be daft - dylithium crystals indeed. That's just plain ridiculous.
It's dilithium.

The most successful living things on this planet have been around since Day One, whenever that was, Cyanobacteria.
