Truth is, the media lives on conflict and hype. Journalism rule #1 - "if it bleeds, it leads." Nobody does stories about he fact that violent crime has been on a steady decline for ~20 years because it's boring. But let's face it; civil rights just keep on marching ahead, with what - 37 states now? allowing gay marriage, and hate crimes on the decline.
Yeah, we're a f88ked-up hodgepodge of opinionated jerks, religious zealots, and utopianist nutbars. So what? We've always been a mess, that's just who we are.

Who says hate crime is on the decline with the nationwide police flaunting their right to murder blacks? Does it simply not count if it's official? Because if you take official hate crimes into account, and include our wars of aggression in that as well, you have a much bigger problem than the old posse society, and you have a small sliver of what I'm screaming about.
