RE: Would you let your employer or office building put an RFID chip in you?

An RFID chip should make it easy to track you all over, unless maybe the transimission of the frequency is too weak? Maybe someone with more knowledge on that can enlighten us.
Still, you would have to trust your company that it was only a tracking chip they were injecting into you.
And it's not a matter of doing anything illicit. It's a matter of privacy, and giving away your privacy is giving others power over you.
The keycard is both NFC and RFID. They use it on all employees to track breaks and job avoidance. I keep the damn thing in my wallet, because I don't want to forget it.
Range for RFIDs is a function of both the tag itself and the reader, so technically, a tag that can only be read from 3ft with one reader could be read from a lot further with a much more sensitive reader, or, in the future, with a more advanced reader.
I get the privacy thing. It's just not a concern for me. I trust that my company doesn't give a shit where I'm at when I'm not at work. Even if they did give a shit, what could that information be used for? I post Facebook updates all the time about where I am, not everywhere, but if I go somewhere new or post a picture with friends, there's a pin dropped on that.
I guess my point is that there is so much data about everything we do out there, that this is just another dot in the matrix. If they wanted to, "they" could track my location with my credit card purchases, my cell phone connecting to a tower, my social media updates, the websites I visit, what I post here. RFID would just be another thing. I know it's another way to "track" me, but whatever, track me. It'll be a bunch of useless data.

Nope, nuh-uh, get the fuck outta here.
What is the point? Convenience? For whom? Security? For whom?

Fuck no. Mark of the beast and all.
Seriously, I don't know that I would have a big problem with it considering that I'm constantly tethered to other electronic leashes.

OH HELL NO
I don't have a smart phone just because of this reason.
The Veterans Administration wanted to do "some test's" on me. BULLSHIT they wanted to collect data on me. Have I done anything wrong??? I don't know...it all depends who is looking. If the tea party requests data on me...I am on a serious radar screen. How about a religious organization??? Don't think for a second that our fine government will keep this data to themselves

Is this because of the design of RFID chips, or is it possible to make one that doesn't?
What would stop them from putting a chip in you that wasn't dependent like that?
I get the whole thing that our personal data is everywhere, but I think that is more of a reason to be vigilant about what we allow out there, not a reason to become complacent to it.
I'm open to being convinced that this is more of a personal issue than a pragmatic one, but due to my heavy influence from dystopian sci-fi, my instinct is to feel absolutely repulsed by this idea.

The chips I am aware of have no power source of their own - they're capacitively(*) coupled and obtain power generated in a field by the receiver.
What would stop "them" from putting in a chip that didn't depend on being powered by an external field? It'd have to have it's own power source, and you wouldn't want something like that embedded in you. :p
ETA: The passive chips used today aren't technically capacitively or inductively coupled, but still depend on the receiver as a power source.

I have thought of only one reason that would prompt me to allow this:
The chip identifies me as being an upstanding individual allowed to completely bypass airport security.

I am not saying that I wouldn't be embarrassed about some things I've done in my past (that one time I watched tentacle porn), that I don't speed, haven't trespassed, or anything like that.
But I've got no plans to do anything blatantly illegal. I don't plan on selling crack or infiltrating Shadow Moses.
Seriously, the data points for my location if the government wanted to track me would be work, Target, the gym, home, and various food/beer establishments. Have fun with that. ETA: I use a keycard at work and the gym, and my credit card nearly everywhere else I go. So the data points just got a little bit more precise, I guess.

Yeah, that only happened after they put me in an induced coma. :p
Not kidding.
They removed it when I was conscious. Nurse says "this won't hurt". I says " you're lying". She was.
