New Rule: No Personal Attacks

This rule change won't really effect me, as I'm not one to throw insults around all willy-nilly, so that is not the reason I have a negative reaction to the change. In fact, I won't be changing anything about the way I post or the content of my posts... but I dislike 'nanny-state' rules on principle, which is why I expressed my distaste for the change.

If someone is being a complete idiot, however, I believe that we should be able to tell them so. Although... I suppose it is just as easy to say, "Don't be an idiot", in response to an idiotic statement as it is to say, "you are an idiot". Heheh.

I completely understand where you are coming from Paul, but certainly you must have noticed that civility in the discussions, specially towards the theists in this forum, has gone to shit recently.

Particularly with trolls this posed a problem because when trolls do nothing but sling personal insults, there isn't a damn thing we could do about it as it was not against our rules.

*nods* Indeed. I know that Edward was being quite insulting to every atheist here, but nothing could really be done about it. I get it. I really do. I just don't like changes that add restriction where restriction was lacking before. I liked the feeling of freedom, even if I didn't often take advantage of it myself (not to say I never have). As I said... it won't really effect me, so I shouldn't be making such a big deal out of it, but I'm also not in favor of it, so I can't help saying so. Heh! Besides... it's better to bring it all out in the open like this than to leave it. I'm probably not the only one that reacted this way, so... it's good for any others to see these posts from the admins.

It's all good.

Well, in all honesty, we're only going back to the way the forums used to be when it was first created. -_^

It sucks that it ended up happening the way it did, with the vote and all. But believe me, I've dropped more bombs on the general attandees at my convention removing previously held policies or privileges with regards to registration, and holy shit that was not fun to deal with. This is rather tame in comparison.

So I appreciate your concern, but I think you'll find over time that the rule is good for the forum. And given the members' opinion and new return of the rule, we will be lenient as members adjust.

Good luck on your search. I really doubt you'll find a quality forum that allows insults.

That would really be unfortunate. But as mentioned before there are very few boards that have such a rule not in place. Besides, that post you made about AIG works just as well without mentioning names. So why do so?

Good points all around, but I don't think 4chan is so much dedicated to insults so much as dedicated to finding god.

Clearly this warrents explaination; you see, the idea is that if you concentrate so much heinousness, debauchery, and sin into one place, it'll eventually collapse on its own weight and form a black hole of wrong so powerful that, if the almighty actually exists, he would immediately annihilate the server with the holiest and purest of fire that will leave a hole in the ground that is one kilometer in radius and five kilometers in depth.

It's the perfect plan.

It's believed by scholars that the hole will then consist of a lake of pure holy fire that will have to burn for five hundred years to fully and completely rid the world of its presence.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Believe it or not, I have never been there. Not once. I'm not sure how I managed that, but 'tis true.
