Starting Threads with Links
March 6, 2015 at 6:56 pm
I've noticed a trend lately in which members post a new thread with links, and add nothing: not a summary, a blurb from the article, nor any kind of opinion. I'd like to remind those of you who have done this of the rules (bold mine):
The Rules Wrote:This is a discussion forum.
This means that members should interact with each other in a proper discussion, and not purposely / repeatedly evade rebuttals made to them. Whilst members are not forced or required to answer every post addressed to them, ignoring them all and continuing to post similar content will fall in line with our "No Spam" rule. This includes posting links / copy-pasted content / scripture verses repeatedly, without adding your own comments or being relevant to the thread.
This is our primary rule and all other rules fall in line with this concept. The staff reserves the right to analyze each case in the spirit of this rule if said case doesn't violate the exact wording of other rules.
Please don't start a thread with a link if you have nothing but the link to post. Thank you.

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci
"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Oooow I was recently guilty of this. I won't be doing it again. I apologize errbody.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Wholeheartedly agree with rexbecca. It's pretty tiresome to only find a link or a vid without a hint of what's inside.

Really dude? Did you really think undermining a mod with a lukewarm troll meme link was a good idea here?

This behavior has been pretty annoying. It's as if the OP expects everybody to just get it; to agree in whole with him.

To be fair I wasn't opening a thread, and I do always credit others where necessary and I preamble or explain my links. This is the one and only time I've ever done this.
My intention was that it's too crass to be an attempt to undermine you (who would be that stupid?), it was intended as satire actually to show understanding of and to reinforce your point.

We have somebody doing this in, IIRC, Music or Off Topic. He really needs the playlist thread(s). Music YouTubes without any sort of comment. Just lyrics (sometimes, it looks like). And it's getting kind of spammy.
