I think gay people can experience distress and interpersonal difficulties, but that's more of a societal issue, and noticing and feeling negatively about their differences; not directly caused by their sexual preferences. Are there studies showing pedophilia directly causing these things? I wouldn't have a hard time believing that genetics plays a large part of pedophilia, seeing as we have sexually selected preferences for adult mates that retain younger qualities. Neoteny, I believe is the term.

From what I gather, it seems that the distress accompanying pedophilia is actually one of the criteria for diagnosis.

That... seems weird and possibly obstructive. I'd fully expect a paedophile who has no outlet to become distressed. It's just a matter of time. But then I don't know enough about it, so I should shut my stupid gob.

Right. Many of them realise, if they were looking at it from another person's point of view, how fucked up their urges must seem. They know it's illegal, they know there's no way of acting them out without causing a child severe trauma and mental scarring, so they have to internalise and never let the demon out. It's quite upsetting reading into it and picturing it, really.

One of my pet peeves is people's refusal to differentiate between a paedophile and a paedophile who actively harms children / looks at child porn. It seems like paedophile has become synonymous with criminal now.

I feel desperately sorry for paedophiles, it must be a miserable existence.

Yeah. It seems like some who support the death penalty only support it for pedos (who are guilty of crimes or not), and not for murder.
