That's true, and also there is a different level of seriousness with which people treat these forums to. For some people getting insulted here is just like it happened in real life. For others it's just the internet and who cares.

Unless it's ME not caring, right? Then I'm just being a fraud.  Wink

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Yeah, I get that tone doesn't come through via text very easily, so I make a smilie to reassure people I'm not angry/bitter when it's a sensitive topic. Some people don't like it though lol.
I hate those smiley faces shit. Post your feelings and let us figure the rest out.

How do you genuinely feel about being called a phony? That's what I'd be far more interested in hearing. I'm far more interested in people's honest opinions and feelings about stuff, rather than someone who just attempts to be nice to everybody. Genuineness goes way farther with me than politeness. Jackasses like GodsChild isn't really being genuine either. He's just here to stir the shit. You are sort of the opposite. Just here to leave a good impression. I think I could pretty much predict most of your answers.

Mostly in my real life and in these forums I'm sort of drawn towards interesting people. The more interesting the better. Someone who gives stock answers isn't that interesting to me.

Ok Capn, how should I have responded?

Obviously I don't like being called a phony, and I've thoroughly expressed how I feel about it in a different thread that got shut down a couple months ago.  I already told you my "politeness" (which I consider nothing more than normal, human, common courtesy), is true to how I am. People are going to think what they think. I'm not gonna argue with you about how you perceive me. If the fact that I won't do so just "reinforces" my phoniness to you, so be it. Respectfully and no offense, but I have better things to do with my time.
There is no way you should of responded. That's the point. I think it might even be healthy for you to think outside of the box a little though. If you don't want to have this discussion though, that's up to you.

I tried to get you one but mine wasn't interested. (At least, she didn't respond when I mentioned it to her.) Sorry...

Then you haven't gotten some of the pamphlets I have. Dodgy It's never explicitly stated, but it's everywhere implied. Though perhaps this is also inherent to the difference between and atheist and a theist. Maybe you would more readily see the issue if it weren't just variations of Christians going door to door. (Or are you the kind of Christian that doesn't consider Mormonism "Christian"?)

Quote:Likewise, I've had Obama supporters come knocking on my door trying to "convert" me to vote for him lol. I disagree with them as well, but I just say "thank you but I'm not interested," because I understand the vulnerable position they are in and can only imagine how much they get chewed out by other people.

To be clear, I don't like ANYONE knocking on my door that isn't there because they were invited, they're bringing me a package I am getting delivered, or are there to tell me the building is on fire and to run for my life. Tongue

I have a very nosy neighbor who drops by to "chat" about inane things I don't care about nor do I need to know, and it drives me nuts.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

Wait, did the following exchange really just happen?

"I don't want a canned answer. I want the truth. How do you genuinely feel about being called a phoney?"
"I, uh, obviously don't like it. I said it before in another thread that was eventually closed. And if you don't like how I respond, how do you think I should respond?"
"There's no way you should have (grammar's a bitch, ain't it?) responded. That's the point."

I mean... fuck, man, that's pants on head retarded.

The main problem I had with some of your more recent threads, lie in their topics. Pretty basic start with abortion, moving on to incest and finishing at bestiality. All capitalized like in a bad tabloid. And I wouldn't have taken that much offense if these three topics wouldn't crop up in the exact same order on Conservapedia in their entry about atheism, with the single goal to make atheists look bad.

Coincidence, maybe. But in the exact same order?

Oh my gosh, I am the same way. I HATE it when people knock on my door unexpectedly. I'm one of those people who walks around the house in just a t shirt and panties and no makeup and my hair a mess lol. When people knock on my door, it's the same to me as if you were knocking on the bathroom door while I was taking a dump.

So getting back on topic a little:

I do have a pet peeve when it comes to some anti-Christian threads that people make on here. Specifically the ones where they are bashing on the Christian god. They normally go something like this.

In so and so passage of the bible God did this and killed all these people. It's doesn't apply to real life at all and most of the time I think these Atheists are the ones who give Christians the impression that 'Atheists are just angry at god' Really if a Christian looked at those threads they would be under the impression that the Atheist did believe in that God and thought he was awful. I normally pop in just to remind everybody that they are talking about made up events.

I never started a topic on abortion. The order of the other 2 other topics were because one discussion led to another, so I started a new thread on it as not to derail the existing thread. My goal was not to make atheists look bad, btw.
