You'll have to ask one of those people who has faith in him.

Sorry to inform you, but I have heard quite a few Christians use almost the same definition you are describing as a 'great example of the atheist definition of faith' to describe their faith. Sure. they use less snarky language, but the meaning is the same.

Yes, it is true, they also use the definition that you do at other times, but there is no mistaking they use this one too.

If they got it wrong, that is up to all you Christians to get together and decide which is the correct usage. Because I have seen Christians use the Bible to justify both definitions.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

God has reliably caused us to want to debate his existence every now and then, even without necessarily existing. Checkmate atheists!

I have faith that this chair will hold me up when I sit on it. They are the same faith. I believe in God and I believe in my chair. I do not have absolute faith that all people are good all the time. I do have faith that most people can be good.

Why do you believe in your chair? You have sufficient evidence to prove it exists, and nobody has a reason to doubt its existence. Belief is not needed.

Jokes aside, I'm gonna use that line of reasoning theists make for their version, as I am gonna use on the insistence about faith in the FSM.

There's a bloody good reason why people agree on the Burden of Proof.

It's also your definition when it comes to faith in Thor or Vishnu or Quezovercoatl.
