Which only goes to show that neither of you know what the fuck you are talking about.
Aw, Mini beat me to it.
Seriously, though, do you guys know the Ten Commandments? Like, without looking them up? I do. There are at least two sets, the most popular (and technically NOT the named "10 Commandments") of which is this:
1. Have no other gods before me (not a law)
2. Do not make graven images/idols (not a law)
3. Do not take the Lord's name in vain (not a law)
4. Rest on the Sabbath/keep it holy (not a law)
5. Honor/obey your father and mother (sort of a law, but only til you're 18 or legally emancipated)
6. Don't murder (ok, this one is a law, and that law probably predates the Bible in terms of human history ...the modern law, in fact, is much more cut-and-dried on this than the Bible)
7. Don't commit adultery (sort of a law, mostly for civil/divorce law, certainly not a federal crime)
8. Don't steal (is actually a law, and again probably one that is not novel or unique to ancient Jews or Christians)
9. Don't bear false witness (perjury, slander, and libel are technically things, and yet again things that were likely frowned upon in other cultures first)
10. Don't covet your neighbor's wife/house/stuff (not a law)
I'm not even going to bother with the ACTUAL Ten Commandments because they have nothing to do with modern law. Of the above, we have maybe 5 potential correlations between this list and our modern legal system, and of those the strongest examples by far are "don't kill" and "don't steal." I would contend that all of these contributions actually stem from classic human ethics, and the Bible just happens to mention the same values; they do not necessarily seem to be direct contributions from the Bible.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)
