That is why the doctrine of original sin fails. The act is not/was not the original sin. Lucifer's rebellion was the original sin. (which happened before the fall of man because how else was he in the garden tempting them?) Adam and Eve did not know of sin till they ate the forbidden fruit, and therefore were not subject to the law of sin. They had a singular choice given to them in the garden. eat the forbidden fruit and die outside of God's will for them, or do not touch that tree or it's fruit and continue on with God. they did not need to fully understand sin to know that that fruit would kill them. The fruit ended their immortality and direct relationship with God. Who they were pre fall, died that day when they were cast out of the garden and the clock of their time in this world started. Adam and Eve's first true sin happened outside the garden. Because it was only then that they knew right from wrong and chose wrong anyway.
