This man. He was my grand uncle. But he only was the most prominent member of his generation. They all fought fascism wherever it raised it's head. Within their possibilities. Julius Deutsch founded the first Austrian republican army in Austria in 1919. He fought the Austrian fascists in the Civil war of 1934 and moved to Spain where he was the Republican commander of Bilbao. Being a lifelong socialist, he didn't flee to the Soviet Union but to the United States, siince he also was a lifellong democrat.
