Napoleon once said, "History is a set of lies agreed upon."  Tolstoy once said, "History would be a wonderful thing.  If it were only true."  It has also been said that history is written by the victors.  What makes that bad is another truism.  "In war, truth is the first casualty."  No doubt for the winning side, it remains a casualty.  Oh, the truths I could tell you.  But chances are, you don't even want to know them.  And partially because of what my avatar says.

History is always interpretation. Some people are better and more honest about it than others.

I saw this thread and I thought “well, this sounds familiar.” And, sure enough, I checked it. 

There was another guy here who made a thread with the exact same title and a good-sized portion of the two OPs are identical. And something tells me that, like that other guy, if we gave him a chance, he’d probably devote an entire thread to a racist version of this rant:
