My Surface Pro 3:
Upgraded from 8.1 to 10.
Huge problems with BitDefender that took a full day to fix.
Huge problems with Homegroup* that are still unresolved.
My mom's laptop:
Upgraded from 7 to 10.
All existing documents were suddenly read-only.
The Windows buttons on the taskbar (Start, Cortana, Battery, Notification Center, etc.) stopped working. Required a fix in Powershell.
Huge problems with Homegroup* that are still unresolved.
Add to that a laughably inconsistent UI.
*Homegroup is the worst designed network sharing platform I've ever seen. I've used it since Windows 7, but it's a bitch to get working properly. Even worse, you can't tell it to remove old devices from the group. So, my current group was created on a desktop I sold a couple years ago. Homegroup still thinks it exists. I can remove my current devices from that group, but not that device because I no longer have physical access to it. And I can't create a new group because everything thinks the group that was started on my old desktop still exists, and you can't have multiple groups.
It's fucking idiotic across the board. Piss poor design from the outset. And, judging by my afternoon's online search for help, these issues have been known by Microsoft since Windows 7, and they don't give a shit.
The only fixes I've seen that might work involve shutting down 6 processes, erasing files from a particular Windows directory, and fucking around in the registry. Which is bullshit.
So, I'm not very happy right now. Microsoft needs to spend more time solidifying the guts of their OS than worrying about a flashy, if slapdash, UI.
See.Told ya'll it isn't a good idea to upgrade.
Trust me guys, you will regret it eventually if you jump on the update so early.Microsoft needs more time to sort their shit.
