Divinity Wrote:Don't know the rules here, so I'll keep my language clean.Welcome aboard, Divinity. I think you'll do fine here. You might need a bit of a thick skin. Language is pretty loose, most of us don't think that 'being bad' is a quality words can have.
My name is Divinity, and I'm 40 something years old, and I'm a believer in god, but not a believer in religion. I think all those religious texts are full of nonsense. I wouldn't so much say I defy labels, as I just have no freaking clue what label fits me. I believe in the divinity of Jesus, but I don't believe that everything written about him that he supposedly said was actually said by him. I have five grown children who are all atheists. I don't believe any of the ridiculous things some believers think about atheists (There's good atheists, and bad atheists, etc..) Most Christian communities are like talking to... sheep. All I hear is bah bah bah. So I decided to to join an Atheist community. I'm not here to convert people. I don't believe that non-belief in god is something that sends you to hell. I admit that such an idea is pretty stupid, and very much reminiscent of a con artists ploy to religion (and part of why I don't believe in religion)
A lot of people who don't fit into an easy theist or deist label are 'Somethingists'. They're agnostic theists, they don't know, but they believe. In what do they believe? 'Something' that's out there, that got things started, that connects things, is maybe benevolent, might occasionally be providential.
I'm cool with Somethingists. I've never seen one of them try to change the law because they think it's what Something wants.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
