Okay, so as many of you may have heard, a recent study by Professor Nutt [BBC News Profile] [Wikipedia Entry] has released a study calling alcohol 'more harmful than heroin or crack when the overall dangers to the individual and society are considered'. And personally, I agree with him. The main criticism of his work has arisen due to the fact that this research flies in the face of the UK Government's policy on drug classification. The findings have backed up previous research from the Netherlands and United Kingdom.

Personally, I completely agree with the findings. They don't just show the damage to the individual but also the damage to others. I support the decriminalisation of drugs, what people put in their bodies should not be any business of the Government. And the added revenue from drugs sales would benefit society, as long as their use is regulated correctly. Improper use would of course put a larger burden on Healthcare and Welfare systems.
These findings should lead to a change in classification policy, either legalising other drugs, or banning alcohol. In reality they will most likely be shot down as nonsense by the Government and ignored.
What do you think? Should drugs be decriminalised or should things be kept the same?
